The signal is on the small terminal on the opposite side of the solenoid from your small ground.
There has to be a signal to that small terminal. If you jump from the positive solenoid stud to that signal it should crank if your grounds are correct

Should be a smaller wire going to the starter solenoid from a relay or a mag switch like the one you posted pics of in the battery box.
Rideandrepair, OldRed98 and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Here ya go for placement. G would be towards the block, S towards frame rail
SB is starter body
P is Positive
S is Signal
G is groundRideandrepair and OldRed98 Thank this. -
See if this helps, may not be exactly what you have. "came home and threw them on in the dark" Best to slow/trickle charge before installing batteries. I have had them charge for 4-8 hours even with a mfg date of only a month old. Not that this is your problem.
This is a good video even if it is on an F-150.

Thanks everyone! I’ve got to have a wire wrong going to the starter switch. I tried to look at it just now but too dark out to trace wires. Hopefully I’ll have it going in the morning (I’ll keep everyone posted). I appreciate the help.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
This looks like it would be the signal wire, and that exact spot the arrow points to looks compromised. I mean, that looks like a bad spot to me. I just blew up the pic you posted
Rideandrepair and OldRed98 Thank this. -
That’s the wire I traced back and it’s broken off. But l can’t find where it was connected to. The other section of the wire is missing.
I traced all the wires coming off the solenoid in the battery box and they go into a wire loom that goes somewhere to the passenger side. It has to split off somewhere.
I should have paid better attention when I took the starter off.
the hard part of an older truck… looks like someone has reworked this wiring before.
hopefully I’ll find it once I have some daylight to work with. If not I might have to run a new wire.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Often running a new wire is best. Find the relay thatvis clicking when you hit the button. That should be where it needs to goRideandrepair Thanks this.

Got it fixed this morning.
That wire I used for the remote wire was broken. So I ran a new wire and fired right up. Big thank you for all of your help!!!!
I’m still getting high voltage on my gauge. I’m guessing my alternator is bad is probably what caused all these issues in the first place. I’m going to go get it tested. -
Many Kw’s in the 80’s were still positive ground. Do’s yours look like it may have been? Alternators were different polarity.
