Quality Carriers: Choosing a terminal/LP or Company

Hello debating on making a change from flatbed to tankers. Already have endorsements and TWIC I’ve been told that certain terminals pay better than others not sure how true that is I live in Texas so I’m in the middle of a few terminals. How was your experience? Are you still employed? Lease/OO or company? I was told company has $1400 guaranteed gross I assume

 

It's been about 12 yrs since I drove for them.
They trained me to do tanker work.
You have corporate owned terminals and affiliate owned and each one runs different.
A few are union. Each will have different pay scales, some are great to work for and others not so much. I was at term. 767 out of Chicagoland area was treated well and the pay roughly $1500. If you choose a commission terminal and the owner or dispatcher has trucks leased on their. Run away!!
They will work before anyone ......

 

Some affiliates [franchises?] were trucking companies that went under the umbrella of a larger carrier [originally Montgomery] for various reasons.

This may add another hand in the till and could affect the individual pay scales.

When I was breifly involved with Montgomery, one of my former owner opertors found a steady gig with one of the affiliates and was happy.

Most of the rest moved on quickly when the account we brought in dumpped Montgomery and I moved on too...

 

Try the cryogenic companies. They guarantee a minimum plus you’re home everyday.

 

Any recommendations have no tank experience

 

All of them train. You don’t need tanker experience. They only look for 2-3 years driving experience, all endorsements and excellent driving record.

 

Top two companies to work for are Air Products and Linde. Then Airgas and Messer.

 

Plus, Cryogenic is much cleaner work, than say fuel or chemical hauling. Less surge also as most tanks are baffled.

 

Air products will be farther up your butt than a doctor doing a colonoscopy……..
