It's been tried, done, failed and didn't accomplish a #### thing. Truckin' ain't truckin' no more. It's a political joke and nothing more than a nightmare these day's.

SNI did that same bs, Werner just installed an APU. This is why I still today have far more respect for Werner then any other big company. Because when fuel went up and everyone lowered their speed and got gung ho on idle, Werner was the only company who DID not lower their speed and install mass installed APUs on every truck newer then 2006/7.

As far as I am concerned, say what you want about them, that shows they give a #### more then any other big company.

GTS here has the NITE system which works though not as well as the standard APU. But our heater on it is broken, needs a part, and we haven't been back to grand rapids when the shop was open so far to get it repaired. We like the company they have treated us real well so we have been trying to keep from idling much. One night in WY we stopped due to ice on the road, shut the truck off, went to bed. Woke up about 12 degrees in the truck (it was -2 outside).

I sent a message mostly just to annoy my dispatcher, as I do daily, about how i was cold and it was like -2 outside. He asked why the hell the truck was off? He said and I quote: 'Don't freeze, idle!' o.0

It wasnt that cold under out blankets really, i dont feel we were in any danger, it was toasty in the blankets just bloody cold outside the blankets but that reply was the first time EVER I've had a dispatcher tell me TO IDLE TO STAY WARM. Honeslty if we felt it was a safety issue we'd have idled, regardless. We bought a little truck bunk heater that plugged into the power socket but that didnt work out so well, it killed the battery in about 4 hours.

So now I've got an electric blanket. >.>

I can't remember how many times someone has backed inside of our plant, or inside of a customers building, to load, or unload, and they leave the truck idling, INSIDE THE BUILDING! You tell them they need to shut it off, and they give you a blank stare, like it's a concept they're not familiar with. "Shut the truck off?" Yeah, you know, turn the key to the left......
This just happened Thursday, at a customers, where it was 75 degrees here that day. Guy backs into a dock inside the building, takes about 45 minutes unloading, truck idling all the while. Those people make it bad for everyone else.

The only reason Werner put apus in was because the got a grant to do so they still don't care about you or your health

Of course not honey, because people just hand grants (if the grant thing is true and not just more rumor mill bs) out freely when they see companies that need them.

Because grants are very easy to get, and are given without effort!

    Its true.

When I started out, my driver-trainer said to NEVER turn the truck off. He was talking about his truck, while I was driving with him. He said to only turn it off when fueling.

Posted by someone who either never filled out a grant request form, or has done it so often they don't see what a PITA it can be anymore.

Your trainer wasted a lot of fuel needlessly.

Grants are easy to get? Are you... kidding me?

    Especially for a profit company?

    Seriously?

I am not bothering to waste time looking it up myself, I don't care if they DID get a grant or not. Thats not really the point. The point is while EVERY OTHER big company LOWERED their truck speeds they did not. They installed APUs. I don't CARE why.

Grants are not something you 'fill out a form' and get. They are not free money. You have to prove intent, means, and then win out over everyone else applying. For any one grant there are dozens if not hundreds of applications. They take alot of legal work, if you expect to get a grant you better be good at legal writing. Most grants don't have forms, you submit a grant proposal and have it accepted. Which is a feat in of itself and can take HUNDREDS of man hours in some cases.

After your grant is accepted most require extensive recording for what the money was spent on, to ensure that the grants funds were used for the purpose it was given for.

Its not free money. Its not easy money. And it certainly does show some effort on Werner's part to acquire. They didn't just get free money one day. Its a win/win situation. They got APU's for their trucks, which saves them money. They are releasing less emissions due to this. And the drivers are comfortable. But no, they are totally evil and their getting APUs and not lowering their fleet speed being better for their drivers is a complete anomaly.

And you aren't the boss of me, honey. I was trying to be nice and pleasant to you, forgive me. Won't happen again.
