Whats sad is they are teaching these kids and....forigen.....yes thats a word i can use. Drivers when they are trained at all that is. To RIDE THE #### BRAKE lightly of course down the entire hill. They are told pulseing breaks and such is BAD. Hell the trainer for swift my buddy worked with actully yelled at him for downshifting "Too much"

You got to be kidding me. No more stab braking? And why don't they tell these new people that if it's a really steep grade, just go down it one gear lower than what it took to climb and you should be alright?

When I was in school they told us the same gear or one lower. Use the Jake.

Not true. I just went through the Mega/ELDT training almost 2 years ago, i paid attention and was taught to:

    1-
Control your speed before it becomes a problem
2- See 1. Be in correct gear
3- Once you are traveling 5 over the posted limit, apply light to moderate brake pressure until you are 5 under thus utilizing that 10mph zone to let the brakes cool

I feel bad for your buddy. I would have gotten out of that "trainers truck." I would rather ride with someone downshifting too much, assuming they aren't losing traction, as opposed to someone rolling coal out their brake drums, lol.

During my bus driving days I worked with a few guys who were flatlanders, never encountered much in the way of hills until they found themselves going down some big ones. They were incredibly lucky that they didn’t kill anyone. I guess you can’t teach someone how to handle hills if there aren’t any nearby during training…

Glad I had some common sense before truck driving. Like idk don’t ride the brakes. They heat up. Lots o heat and truck breaks don’t mix.
