Shocker!.. China controls the supply lines for most of the rare earth minerals required for production of this D-Bag idea!.. gee, who could've saw that coming?

There's endless scenarios to this problem, but I sometimes wonder about some of these drivers who run over stuff on a daily basis.

So your just about out of power & you pull in a truck stop & get parked. Just about the time you get parked, Jim Bob backs into the electric equipment which is connected to the main supply transformer & knocks out power to the entire parking area/grid.

Now 100 trucks/parking spaces = no charging & it cant be fixed for a week. Hopefully some trucks will have enough power to get to other truck stops & split all those trucks between working chargers & sit in line waiting on a charger for 20 hours.

The remaining trucks that are low on power will have to sit for a week until the grid gets back up.

60% of trucks electric by 2030 or whatever they are demanding is ridiculous.
I'm not picking on Texas but they, California & other states cant keep the lights on sometimes as it is.

    The scenario's are endless.

This technology is likely possible if you pour enough money into it, but, this is gonna take yeeeaarrs....

Same scenario would play out when a major winter Storm hits. That's already been proven just with electric cars. Imagine how much larger the problem would be with big trucks!

Between tax incentives, direct subsidies, and tax abatements Kwik Trip gets over $100 million a year from State, County, and Local governments to build gas stations. That's in WI alone. In the past year 6 new gas stations have been opened in Green Bay, with at least 2 that I know being planned for summer construction, one of which NO ONE WANTS.

My point is that if we can afford to pour tax money into gas infrastructure, we can afford to do the same with ev infrastructure. Once the local infrastructure is built out, then we can start looking at OTR.

Maersk already has at least 3 all electric drayage trucks running around between the rail ramp, walmart, and home depot in Elwood. I've heard some good and no real bad from our electric trucks out in Cali. And let's not forget all the skepticism about steam engines (both rail and ship), deisel trains, or ICE vehicles.

Not much of a test; those 3 locations are within a 2- or 3-mile radius.

We're trillions of dollars in debt, we shouldn't be subsidizing anything other than what is most needed to keep up with growing demands placed on our current infrastructure in the most cost-effective way possible. It's time to stop funding non-essential things and time to stop playing catch-up & start getting ahead of the curve with things like water, electricity, roadway capacity, and truck parking.

If somebody wants to build out EV infrastructure, they should fund it themselves.

But think of how many trucks just bounce between the rail ramps and that industrial park every day. Or how many trucks just shuttle between rail ramps in Chicago. Then you have all the peddle guys, box trucks, and yard trucks. Easily 1/3 of the trucks operating in the Chicago market never go more than 100 miles from their home base. Add in line haul going terminal to terminal and we're pretty close to the "mandate".

In regards to charging infrastructure the only challenging part is otr. That's a mess with no good solution, but otr is a dwindling thing anyway.

    Don't disagree at all.

So can I get the $500,000 back from Kwik Trip that we gave them to build their new W Mason location before they break ground? Or at least end the state mandated tax abatement on the property so they pay the same tax rate I do as a landloard?

How about ending the discussion over state funding for rebuilding the west shore pipeline?

When we're having the discussion about ev infrastructure we need to remember that we heavily subsidized the creation of the ice infrastructure and continue to subsidize it today.
