Driver Facing Camera Question

You need to review your companies policy regarding the cameras - you would have signed a written consent upon installation or upon your hiring / orientation, which most likely had the policy attached.

Generally they are used on event based "hard brake, speeding" but also would have to be manually monitored from time to time to discover "cell phone, distracted driving etc" - therefore it might have been witnessed upon a distracted driving routine check as opposed to the event based ELD generated videos like a hard brake. But, he could also be spying. Its impossible to prove a violation of privacy for that reason. You can file a complaint with HR and document it to begin building a case of harassment if you truely believe he is spying on you, however a set of curtains can do the trick as well?

He had no right to say that. Who would intentionally admit to being a voyeur?
Even though the cameras record footage during certain qualifying events, the company can still see what's going on in real time. All you have to do is cover up the camera when you're not driving if you want privacy.

You did not receive advance notice prior to the installation of the camera system? They never showed you a computer based training vid that showcased it? There were no front face cameras when I started but the company I work for did make it known they were coming a year in advance. I inadvertently agreed by staying.
The real issue is not being able to have a truck with separate bunks.The manager shouldn't have taken it upon himself/herself to give you a truck with only one bed just because you were seen the two of you were sharing one.

That’s a complete invasion of privacy, as well they violated the pipeda act by not explaining the company program and getting your written company consent. Not to mention you could file a criminal complaint for voyerism against him. In the bunk your off duty. I would cover that camera with a piece of tape. What you do next is up to you…. If you want to escalate it to a federal labour board complaint, or file a criminal complaint, they will probably fire you. Your call how far you want to take it. I would go far above him if you can.
