I wanted to clarify my post about the ease of "adjustments". I did not mean loose leaf logs are great for falsifying. If you have a busy day with lots of stops or drop and hooks the page will look a little messy. I will go back and re-do the page so that it looks neat and can be scanned by our log department. There are also those days when I average a hair over the speed limit my company wants us to average due to lots of interstate driving. I can add fifteen minutes somewhere on line three to get it within tolerance of the computer scan. There are also those days that I may run fifteen to thirty minutes over the fourteen. I can shorten up a load/unload to get it correct. Other than issues like that, I run as legal as possible.

That it is but what are you supposed to do? I can't blame him one bit for making adjustments. Sometimes you do what you gotta do to get done what you gotta get done.

That mentality is the primary reason for all of the new rules and eobr's and the like.
Anyone that can't make money running legal isn't charging enough for their services.

I run 100% legal and I make money!

Once again I say....The industry has brought this on itself!

When I worked for a smaller company I used loose leaf logs and The way he ran his company they were necessary because of all the *adjustments*.

Sure you can make money, technically .00001% profit is making money. I like how in other countries truckers can drive 17 hours in some places, why not here?

its just a lot easier to correct your mistakes..... I'm often screwin it up an I run all legal! well 364 days a year anyways! I swear I gotta buy a whole extra months worth of logs cause u gotta keep those grids so neat for the readers to read all your mistakes so they can fine u every penny u got! I've gotten yanked into the office a few times to rewrite the logs to get rid of those lil lines that went a lil past the right spot. cant have the line go up between the lines etc or u gotta re write!

I remember years ago late 80's I was heading up 101 in Ca just south of Eureaka in the days of "cut the pages out" and DOT pulled me over and of course the first thing out of his mouth was "got your log book" and I handed him that book missing a "few" pages and he looked at it, held it up by the spine, shook it a little and looked up at me and said "it's been sick a little wouldn't you say?" and handed it back to me and looked at his young partner and said "not much use checking that sickly thing, lets just inspect the s*** out of the truck!"

Thats when I learned to start to add pages back to those books! It wasnt hard to do just pull the staples open, open the flap up and remove the "cut" parts out and then add pages back and bend the staples back down! Walla a "new" log book!
I love a loose leaf book! It IS easier to keep it clean with neat lines! ROFLMAO!
As for exactly legal, BS! I know that you aren't going to stop 20 miles from a truck stop, rest area, shipper or receiver or a safe place to park because your clock stopped 15-30 minutes before you reached a safe place to do your 10!

You aren't or can't Bull S*** an OLD Bull S***er! That stuff might look good to you as you type it but we all know an exactly legal log book is the same as a comic book!

I should start by saying i agree with you.

First of all, you can't tell me you've never made an adjustment on your logs. Never gone over hours looking for parking when all the solar powered truckers are sleeping, etc etc. Never? I don't consider it running illegal to fix a logbook to make it look legal even though you ran 45 minutes over your 14 trying to find a place to park. I usually manage to avoid that scenario but you cant avoid it every time. One time, i couldnt find a parking place at 6pm. Come on. I didn't expect it to be full that early..... Another time, I tried parking in NJ at midnight. When i got there, i was like..DUHHH.

Anyway, but, you COULD make MORE money by running illegal. No matter what you charge, you always could. Until the DOT catches up with you atleast. They never caught me in the act when I ran paper. I never did anything really horrible though. I used to team drive and would cheat my 70 to keep it lower so i could keep going. My qualcomm didnt work for about 12 hours of driving so I ran a paper log today and last night, took a fake 2 hour break in brooklyn NY. I honestly didnt think it would ever take 2 hours to run 5 miles.

And look at Arrow. He made a lot more money by stealing it from TAB bank.

My dad made a lot of money on ebay by selling things that never existed.

Truckstops make a lot of money by selling things for double or triple their value (ok, its not illegal but come on..)

And someone is making a lot of money by making it look like the canadian dollar is worth exactly 1 american dollar. but everything in ontario still costs quite a bit more than everything in michigan, everyone makes more money, and taxes are higher, all by about 1/3 for the most part. But if i can buy more with my USD than a canadian dollar, than its not worth the same. Seriously.

Anyway, I know I dont agree with you on much but I'm happy to see that you believe that we ought to make enough money running legal, as do I. Having to break the law to make a living wage is ridiculous. Legal hours are very long hours as it is, nobody should have to drive more than 12 hours without sleeping to make a living wage. The 14 hour on the other hand, seriously needs to be fixed.

Check your green book for HOS exceptions man. It's crazy. In Alaska, the 11 and 15 rules are replaced with a 15 and 20 rule. Drive 15 hours in a 20 hour period. I had some people try to tell me its because the days are longer there, but they sure dont drive less hours than we do when the days are stupidly short. Of course, look at a map of alaska...

Why do bus drivers only have to take an 8 hour off duty break to drive another 10 hours?

Why do drivers of passenger carrying commercial vehicles that have a sleeper get to do 4 and 4 splits still? Of course, I'm not sure i've ever seen this kind of vehicle before.

And why is line 1 and 2 differentiated when you can do way more than sleep in a modern sleeper? I'm on line 2 right now, doesnt mean im sleepin.
