We checked everything and changed the mufflers out. They were stopped up. The temp is running right at 185 degrees now and the pyro is normal. The boost is only hitting 23 psi, which is low to me. I'm beginning to wonder, if the injector height was set wrong or the bull gear set a tooth off during the in-frame. It was driven by an older gentleman and run rather easy pulling really light loads. It's due for an overhead, so maybe that'll help.

I’m not much help, but could the tune have a LowNOx on it? I’m not sure if that’s possible for factory original motor. When I got my truck it was a Detroit Reman but the LowNOx version. It wouldn’t smoke. When I had it tuned to 550 he simply turned off the LowNOx in the tune settings and it smoked on hard acceleration like you would shifting gears. Also my turbo boost went from 28ish to 35-42 depending on temps and fuel.

We thought that to be a possibility. You're right about the settings, because there are quite a few with low nox settings. This one has been checked and doesn't have that. The turbo on it should be at least 28 psi or so. It's only boosting to about 23 psi. We're checking the waste gate and actuator today.Jed2009 Thanks this.

I’ve got a 7FB JWAC B model, in my recently acquired 359 and it smokes like an old steam engine. I know this, sounds ludicrous but it, seems to smoke twice as much since I replacing the junk mufflers, with straights. This truck won’t out run my 379 with 4MG, even though same rubber and same transmission(15 od) but she sure does puff more.

Those old B models would throw some smoke. It might need the pump freshened up, if it's excessive. This Detroit should smoke some and it looks cleaner than an emissions motor. It should at least smoke between shifts.
-
It only smokes when shifted or I intentionally crack the throttle. It’ll literally lay lines once I hit 12th on up.

My stock 98 set at 500 was pushing around 30 to 33 psi pulling 100,000 lbs it hardly puffed on shifts plus pulled great for a engine getting 7 plus us mpg mind you that was on 500 ppm diesel back in the day.

I gotcha. They will definitely smoke some and the ole turbo will sing. I thought you meant excessive smoke.
It's not so much the smoke. It's only putting out 23 psi of boost and feels like a turtle, when you're in the throttle.Magoo1968 Thanks this.
