Last minute option added to our trailer, tire inflation

Does it have points or one of those new fangled electronic ignition? Does it have tube tires? Lot more than what you stated.
I drove with tube tires, changed my share in parking lots. Not quite how you seem to remember.
Tube tires on trucks were gone a long time ago.

 

I never said you couldn’t tell a when a tire is obviously low, I said 20psi. And running a tire at 80psi for a year will shorten the life of the tire. So why not use something relatively cheap that makes sure everything stays at whatever pressure you set? Dragging around under inflated tires increases costs, be it tires themselves or lost fuel economy. Now I know back in your day you didn’t have to worry about that either but it’s a different world now than back when you owned a truck.

I worked on a fleet that had some inflation systems on the trucks. Honestly did not like them. Made getting tires off more difficult, fittings were always seized up etc. Maybe they've gotten better in the last 15 years.

 

Not really a decent system for the tractor. Trailer systems are pretty simple.

 

Rome is falling again. We need government to tell us what to do, how much money they want to take from us. What to eat etc. society doesn’t appreciate simple things that simply work.

 

Forgetting reliable technology had little to do with the fall of the roman empire. Arguably things that "simply work" actually DIDNT work anymore as a matter of a stagnating government living in the glory of yesteryear.

Though it had much more to do with geopolitics and the tenuousness of maintaining an extractive empire that was primarily to blame.

Want to complain about things that are dumb, by all means do so, but your contention that tubless is a step above tubed tires but then poo-pooing a system that maintains the imprived system for you with little to 0 effort while saving your labor and pocketbook... seems a bit hypocritical or at the very least absent the ability to critically think.

You want to go back to the glory days of spring suspensions, tubed tires, 5x4 transmissions, fixed seats and no power steering, go ahead, im happy having ac, heat, a back that isnt killing me, etc etc etc

 

It's one of those things that are nice to have. Do you absolutely need it? No.

Not so long ago there were container chassis leasing companies still running 10.00-20 bias ply tires on dayton wheels on their chassis. They claimed thefts and exchanges stayed much lower.
