I just had my kingpins replaced in my '13 Volvo. I jacked up the front of the truck to get the wheels to spin freely and the front right steer won't spin freely. It takes a bit to rotate that wheel. The left side spins just fine. I don't hear or feel any grinding or anything on the right side, when putting effort into getting the wheel to spin, but doesn't seem like it should be like that. Or is that normal with new kingpins?
No, I am not sure if it had this issue before kingpins were done. I never jacked up the front end before.
New kingpins now one wheel doesn't free spin?

Try backing the brake cam off a bit .
-
They might have taken the hubs off when doing the kingpins. If the brake isn't dragging the bearing adjustment might be off.

How much is it these days to replace both Kingpins , Thank You
Stringb8n Thanks this. -
A dial indicator and magnetic mount are like $30 at Harbor Freight. If you want to adjust the hub, they sell spindle nut sockets at Fleet Pride. Just make sure you know what you're doing. I've never done a steer axle, but I have redone all of the trailer hub seals. I get them to .001-.005, but I feel like steer axles might be .001-.003. If they didn't replace the seals, I'd probably just take it somewhere you trust to have them redone. Then you don't have to worry about old seals leaking and they will be able to set the preload and make sure everything is within spec.

I will try that first. Surely that's the cheapest option, and hopefully all it needs.

$2100, I think just for the kingpins. There was other stuff they did though totalled to almost 3 grand.
-
I agree, but I don't think removing the hubs is necessary for king pins, just the tires, no? I say the brake is dragging.
-
Not necessary but much easier, yes.

I’ve heard that Volvo has a very small window for wheel end play. I wouldn’t run it if it’s tight. Need a dial indicator. No time to trust Billy Bobs technique of tightening by “feel”. Everyone has a different idea of what’s best. The dial indicator gets it exactly right. It’s literally impossible to measure properly without it. I wasn’t a believer till I used one. Checked mine after I thought they were torqued perfect. 3 out of 4 were out of spec. Had a steer too tight once after a Shop replaced a seal. 30 days 8k miles later it overheated and welded itself to the spindle. $2200 repair.
