Hello everyone, I am a current trainee with Stevens Transport, T5 to be exact. I have been researching and checking into companies on this site and have seen alot of scary input. So I want to set the record straight about Stevens.
I arrived in Dallas on March 4th. I flew there and Stevens reimburses you up to $200 for airfare. Stevens had a cab come pick me up for free to take me to the motel. The motel, is not exactly a 4 star but its a comfy bed, a decent TV with a good variety of channels and all together not too terrible. I've stayed in worse.
Now, the classroom training. It was good and the more I was there, the more excited I got about my new adventure. There were Driver Trainers in the class as well which was a godsend. They helped out in the yard during manuevers and road testing and I got to meet a few of them and talk with them one on one. My Trainer, asked me if I wanted to team with him for my first 5 weeks which was a huge load off my mind. If anyone is going to go to Stevens, I highly recommend meeting as many Trainers as possible. You'll thank me later.
My first trip was to Maryland. Never been there so I was psyched. From there we went to Virginia. Went over the Potomic river. Very cool. Then since that trip, we have been going back and forth to California, east coast, west coast, etc.
I have been in the truck for 4 weeks now and time has flown by. I have been averaging about 325 miles a day in fact. My trainer has been keeping us on a regular sleep schedule, nothing other than what any normal human does. Regular showers, meals and laundry. Hell, we've even enjoyed some casinos along the way.
This job is definately not for everyone but if you can handle living in a small space, seeing the country and getting paid while you DRIVE, this is a good way to make a living.
Bottom line, Stevens was the right choice for me and I can't wait to get my own truck. I got friends lining up to travel with me when that happens.
Anyway, if you got any questions about my experience up to now, just ask. I don't regret my decision.

Thanks for that report Surfer. I have an invite to start school in Dallas on June 21st. I haven't decided on a carrier yet, but your report bolsters my opinion of Stevens. Thanks!

I'm noticing more T660 tractors on the Stevens fleet, are these replacing the T2000's? Or are they going to the new T700? I know you are new around there but I wondered what you are hearing around the corp office.

I'm in the 2nd week of the driving school. They told us they have a few hundred of the new T700's on order as well as a few Freightliners...

Good to hear - I have been set up for April 19th class. I also thought about flying since I have no desire to ride the Greydog for that long. Also, I money set aside so dont need their 70 a week for expenses - the less deductions I can get the better. Keep me posted on how it's going?
Also - do I need to get my CDL permit before going? -

You need to have your CDL license. Unless your going for the school, then I think they help you to get your permit and then your license. I'm not 100percent sure though. I went to a driving school near home and went to Stevens on a pre-hire. -
