Canadian trucks hauling USA interstate

...I heard while ago that Canadian co can deliver from Canada to USA and next load should be back to Canada...not usa to usa load .. but I never read the regulations

 

If the load was going to Nogales MX it was perfectly legal.
You have to be careful where you drop it though.
I believe the immigration rule are, if a Canadian driver picks up a load in the US it has to leave the country not necessarily to Canada.
Cabotage laws say a point to point is ok as long as the next load leaves the country.

 

I didn’t think of that. Even if the final destination was Mexico how would that work dropping it at a cross dock on this side of the border? That would be like me loading a load in Edmonton that has a final destination in the States but dropping it on the Canadian side of the border so I can load another load to come south. That doesn’t seem right in my head.

As a Canadian I could deliver a Canadian load to any point in the USA.
I could then run empty to another point in the USA, then either live load or drop and hook my next load, but then absolutely had to leave the USA with that load, no drops allowed along the way out.
In the late 90's US customs was going to allow an intermediate load within the USA on your way to get the next load that had to leave, but US Immigration opposed the plan.

 

its part of a treaty which means that both sides have to agree to change it and that means the WH/state department and congress have to be involved. Customs and Immigration has NO say in any of it.

 

Customs and Immigration ''enforce'' the rules though.
