Is a new hire required to have 3 Years driving experience to be considered for a driving position? Or just list 3 years experience if they have it? (brand new CDL driver / 21 years old)
It depends on where you want to go. I've seen some jobs that require 2 or more years. Your average company wants 1 year experience. If you're looking for a local or regional job in this day and age, it's a pretty good chance they want 3 years. The driver market is shifting towards applicants with a lot of experience and clean records, especially in the local and regional market. Which company are you looking at?
Where is the drivers location; state & nearest city/town? We might find something local if that's what he wants.
Welcome to TTR! If they required it they wouldn’t have given you a CDL. Just start applying to companies that you’re interested in. There are many carriers that hire students with no experience. Some will want a year or five of experience with a CDL. IMO 2 years is where the most doors will open. What are you looking to do with that CDL? Local, OTR and what trailer type interests you most?
Just two big carriers I checked quickly. Swift says you need to be 23 unless you were in the military. Schneider says 21 so that’s a fine start if they hire in your area.
