I was at the Love's in Whitehouse TN a few months ago, and was getting ready to pull out at oh dark thirty and this so called professional driver saw me, asked it I was leaving, said yes, and then kinda of demanded I park his truck. I almost accepted it so I could crap in his sleeper, but said no. Man, I should have.

When I yard dogged at 18, I had a few ask if they could drop the trailer and have me back it in. Never had anyone ask me to back their truck. Have been backed into twice, so I guess that's twice they should've asked

I don’t know if it was true or a joke but I think a long while back someone posted a photo written on a piece of cardboard at a super busy tight food distribution center. The sign said “rookies, I’ll back your truck in for $10“. I guess it was a difficult place to back in and some trucker, thought he’d make some extra money while sitting there. Lol don’t know if it was true or not but I thought it was funny.

I’ve almost offered to do it, but was always too afraid something would go wrong and I’d be in all kinds of trouble.

OMG !! I misread the title as 'Has anyone asked you back to their truck'.

And I was about to tell you of that day in Beunos Aires when I missed my ship.
No need, as I will say just, nothing untoward happenedFearTheCorn and tarmadilo Thank this. -
Don't do it. I know it is a kind thing to do, help out a fellow driver who can't drive the truck but there may be another issue with it, your liability. If you hit something, you may be on the hook for the damages, being an unauthorized driver of the truck, and seeing we have too many ambulance chasing scum lawyers looking for a quick buck, it may cost you just enough to ruin your day.

Many years ago at an old tight angled dock I had to wait till they off loaded a guy before they could off load me. I was about 45 min from home and hadn’t seen my family for months. I watched this guy screw up over and over just trying to get remotely close to the hole and after about his 50th try I told him to get the #### out and let me do it!
That was the only time I actually did it and honestly think if I didn’t I might still be waiting right now probably 30 years later! He was that bad and I still struggle to understand how that guy ever got any license, let alone a CDL.
Been asked a few times over the years, more often recently but I haven’t done more than offer a lesson on backing or simply spot for them. -
All joking on this thread aside, this is probably the most sound advice. The best you can do is help guide them in. Because you are assuming probably all liability if anything goes wrong if you get in the driver seat of someone else’s truck. Even if you’re just trying to be helpful. No good deed goes unpunished. I’ve been in trucks at lunge, they’re not smooth, they have transmission issues, it’s unfamiliar to you as it is at the very least. It’s just too risky.OldeSkool Thanks this.

A long time ago, at a truck stop somewhere in the north east or mid Atlantic, there was a backup in the parking area. About 10 trucks were coming out of the fuel islands but stuck thanks to a guy who could not back into a spot. 30 minutes of trying for the one spot up against the back forty which was also going to the exit. He would pull back, stop and pull up then wait, purposely blocking the aisle.
I was stuck in the second truck in the line. There were horns honking, people getting pissed and all kinds of chatter on that little noise box called a CB all because this guy would not yield to traffic but kept trying.
So finally someone stepped up, tried to guide the guy into the spot and five or six times he still couldn’t get into the slot without almost hitting something or getting it straight. Finally the guy who was helping must have said “let me do it” and he jumped into the truck with the driver standing outside.
The guy didn’t park the truck, he drove off with it. When I was trying to get out into traffic, I watch him park it in another spot across the street at another truck stop. I don’t know what happened after that, I got the hell out of there.4wayflashers, expedite_it, PaulMinternational and 5 others Thank this.
