I have a couple studs on the manifold that are broken. I was wondering what all you guys replace when doing it. I’m not sure if a manifold is worth doing from what I read the benefits are negligible, but I’m not against doing one since I will have it off. And if you guys recommend a stud removal tool let me know as well.

If the manifold gasket area is OK I have never replaced the manifold. All the studs nuts and spacers in most cases. I have a stud removal tool. However I usually just lock two nuts together and see if it will turn. If not maybe spot weld the end of the stud and nut. Then shock it, beat on the end of the stud with a hammer. Lots of little tricks and tools.
This is a Mack with stainless studs. That is an air hammer with a tool for a wrench in order to hammer and try to turn at the same time. It is connected to 1/2" square key stock that is welded to the broken stud. It was straight in the beginning. Never got that one to turn. Had to drill it out with carbide bits. Probably lots of info on this subject in the search block.
Good luck.Bean Jr., AMC500 and Diesel Dave Thank this. -

When that CAT is in a L9000 Ford that the back is tucked into the cab and you are drilling out those studs you really question your career choices.

Hole saw in dog house part, that will not come out, in an L8000 with a 3208 if I recall correctly. Had to do that to get the head bolts out for an in frame. Could have been on some of those GM trucks. Same result for questioning your career choice.Star Rider Thanks this.
