Where did you get the fluid and how much?
-
You sure about that? Manual says the opposite.

Talk to you local shop they usually save their iShift oil from services that have leftovers and will sell you a full bucket for a fraction of a new shelf bucket86scotty Thanks this.

I have a 2019 760 with 614k now. Every now and then I would get a whistling sound from my truck. I couldn’t pin point where it’s coming from but whenever that happens I lower my airbags and the noise goes away. Worth a try!

Sorry its taken a while to answer the posts, I really do appreciate the input
Got the oil off amazon , 1 gallon was 38.60 with free prime delivery. they have 4 gallons for 129.00
The noise is from the transmission, happens no matter the speed or load in any gear up to 6th. Rode on the back to make sure it wasnt something in th edrive train, suspension etc. It sounds like a turbo when it whines
Havent had time to mess with it since last post, hope to crawl under this weekend and add some fluid but i dont think its going to change the whine sound.
So if this was your truck, would you have the transmission removed and opened up to find the issue? Or drive it as is and roll the dice? -
Just had exact same whine on a 2016 with is shift it turned out to be one of the bearing on the mainshaft, this being said i would roll with it there is very few people that will open this trans up and have the tooling to remove mainshaft and all. Before you know it you will go in for a repair and end up with new trans cuz they will not have tooling or can not do anything about it. If and when it gets worse than see what the options are at that point.
palmeris Thanks this. -
Thank you for the reply.
I added about a half gallon of oil to the transmission, that was fun trying to get it in the side hole with no room above to tilt a bottle into a funnel , ended up putting the oil in a squirt bottle and shooting it in until it started to run back out, which put it at the full indicator in the view glass. Took it for a 120 mile test drive, whine sound still there, really no difference that I could tell.
When I purchased the truck i was able to get a 3rd party warranty, it does cover the transmission all moving parts, bearings, bushings, shafts etc. there is a deductible, a cap at 12,000 dollars lifetime, and it doesnt cover the cost of diagnostics, shop supplies, etc.. I also see Volvo has a remanufacture program with 3 different tiers for transmissions, have no idea the costs of those tiers or the labor $ to replace one.
There is a Nacarato and also a Nextran shops fairly close by, was thinking about speaking to their respective service managers about the 2 options above, weigh the cost vs risk and see where that gets me.
This tractor will be hauling our full time home so it needs to be reliable as it can be, for a used truck anyways. I also want to get some changes to the programing, top speed is now capped at 70MPH which can make it difficult to pass at times . Also the adaptive cruise control cant be changed from the far setting, so would like that changed as well.
Again I thank all who have read and replied.
