Cuz sometimes when you're trying to get a load down to the zero degrees arena something in the system sorta freezes up. So ya run a defrost so it thaws an then has an easier time cooling down an maintaining temp.

To go with what @Professor No-Name said when your doors are open like that it’s pulling in warm air from the outside. Warm HUMID air and then freezes on your coils in the reefer unit, thus the defrost. A reefer trailer works like a loop. It blows cold air out the top, down the doors and under the product thru the floor grooves and back up to the unit. When my dad would buy a new reefer we’d get in, have the salesman turn it on and shut the door and he’d throw a dollar bill up into the air infront of the air output the front, and if it had good circulation the dollar bill would come back to us at our feet. When I pulled reefer say I’m at 20 degrees pre chilled and waiting to load. Once it was my turn to dock I would get lined up, hit the defrost button and then open my doors and back up to the dock. The air in the trailer stays “still” and it won’t push all your cold air out the back. Then when loaded I’d hit defrost again. Close my doors do my paperwork and do another defrost manually. Then drive and if I had to get fuel or something defrost manually again. And then again right before bed. You’ll see water pouring out of the black tubes coming out of the bottom of the reefer that are run down probably in between your drives. If not, get a metal coat hanger and break it off to form a rod and stick it up there and wiggle it around it might have some gunk in it. Also if you’re needed to cool quick or loading ice cream plug your drain holes in the floor of your trailer. You can wet down some newspaper and stomp em in there if you don’t have any rubber stoppers.

Next time it turns orange, hit the little button next to the flashing red light above the screen. It'll tell what the code is and then you can clear it as well if it's just temp out of range

All good advice for handling reefers fellas. Y'all going this this weekend or staying out? I'm still in Texas. Was supposed to load in LaPorte going to Wisconsin but it got delayed til today. Too much water in the trailer from the frozen load. I should have sat with the doors open for a while and let it air out. Oops.

Someone suggested it a while ago when I first started reefer, and I think it's true based on my anecdotal evidence lol. Running the reefer around 40 degrees actually dries it out quicker than doors open. Probably not going to be quicker than Texas heat, but the refrigeration system removes moisture pretty quickly due to however the system works. The few times I've done it en route after a washout, it's been bone dry, even after only an hour or two.

That should be a nice little run and change of pace for the long weekend though. Easy route and lots of good truck stops on that trip. Maybe they'll get you reloaded on Monday so you can get back to STL and cover another Houston load for Climate :D

Robert called me yesterday and asked if I wanted to take a load to Bowling Green and be home this weekend, so I guess that's where I'll be headed whenever they get back from New Century with it. Figured if it's going to be a slow or dead day on Monday, I'd rather be at home, so that works for me. Probably benefits some other driver too. I like it cause it's home, but there's no good truck stops or things to do in Bowling Green for 3 days for whoever else would've had to deliver it.

Ha!! Lol when I get back down they'll probably tell me to go Houston again. They already told me to go all the way up to Wisconsin. Talk about lots of time to roll. It's gonna be peaceful this weekend though. Much needed relaxation for both of us.

I'm headed to the Sam's in Sanger, TX now. Delivers on Sunday morning. My home time is scheduled for the end of next week. Those of you going home have fun and be safe!

I just left Dallas this morning. Godspeed. First 3 day weekend of the year and everyone is out pulling their campers that they didn’t take care of all winter. It was blow out county and shredded tire city down there.
