There’s no driver facing cameras just road facing cameras. But this is why I’m worried about fuel mileage because running by the mile like any other part of the industry will be, that’s where the money will be made.. if I can get 7mpg the surcharge will basically pay for the fuel.

Yes, My calculations after paying myself a salary and per diem, truck payment, Oakley fees, scheduled maintenance put aside , non foreseeable maintenance fund of $2000 a month, saving $1200 x 60 for future down payment (whether I use all of it or not with trade in), $2000 a month in taxes, the business itself still stays with about $1300 a month.. and that’s calculated at 10k miles a month and 6mpg @ $4 per gallon

Everyone outside of these forums say the same thing lol I don’t understand.. I’ve met Oakley guys on the road and they’ve showed me settlements and been lucky to run into a guy that showed me some of his accounting.. he’s been there for 5 years and his anniversary bonus (now he’s at 0.15 per loaded mile) was alittle over 10k for the year for his loaded miles and that’s after netting a little less then $2 a mile after all expenses and he doesn’t even run hard anymore. Semi retired guy

I don’t know anything about Oakleys tank division but I have dealt with a dozen or so guys over the last 20 years that run shredded metal recycling material out of SMI and CMC down here in San Antonio and they all have been top notch and seem happy with their deal.

Well to answer your main question you gotta go with a aero truck with tare weight as light as possible. The 880’s with a small sleeper are pretty spacious inside..

Set back front axle and sloped hood will make getting around loading racks and scales easier…..

I get that mileage doesn’t sit well with some. But on the back side you know what nearly every mile that truck turns is going to bring in. Add on top of that they pay all northeast tolls (east of Chicago, north of Atlanta), no trailer rent or maintenance for the trailer and they try to keep you hooked to the same trailer as best they can, all washouts are covered, you’re not chasing loads down, you’re not chasing customers down to get paid, etc. There’s a lot of ancillaries there you’re missing.

There are no driver facing cameras. They have a dash cam that’s linked with their Qualcomm unit. And anyone who is anyone knows they need a dash cam in this day and age anyway. There is however a requirement for a passenger side hood mounted mirror, which for me is a no go. Don’t need them, don’t want them.

But I’ve known plenty of guys that work over there in all of their divisions and all of them are happy and making good money. It’s like anything else in life, there’s give and there’s take.

I know a bunch of folks that have and still do work for them over the years. It’s good honest work with honest fair pay.

Yeah having hood mirrors on the long nose petes looks kinda tacky. Not gonna lie.
