I enlisted the help of what is called a Public Adjustor.
This Company works for you to certify your submittal
of a "certificate of loss" to your insurance company.
These people were great. Over a 6 day period, they identified
and individually photographed over 2600 line items.
they are currently pricing them out to submit.
I did also have a company from the Amish community
come and review, and give me an estimate of cost to re-roof
and re-side the steel framework. I am currently removing debris
and fiberglass siding and using my excavator to make room
around the perimeter of the building to access it more easily.

And now, it's a waiting game until the insurance company
makes their determination. My goal is to get done B4 winter.

Glad to hear you hired a company to try and verify everything lost. Too many of us don't keep an accurate list of things in the garage and I have talked with many that had to fight with thier insurance company after a loss.

I have made a long list of tools and taken many pictures but for some reason still seem to not have an accurate list all the time.

Man, I ran into that when my house got broken into. I really couldn't tell the insurance people what I lost.
Pro tip to all of you who have a garage like that.....take a video recording of everything in the shop and describe it and place a value on it. It makes the claim process much easier.

Yeah, lots of tooling from when I was a Tool and Die Maker since 1971,
I didn't do this inventory before hand, so it hurts to do it after a fire.

Also, I can't get over, this would not have even happened in a week or so,
as it would have gotten above freezing and I would have removed
the block heater, as I had every year for about 10 years.

DON'T USE the magnetic block heaters. Look into it.
There are many people on the inter-webs complaining about fires.
How can they still sell them if they are flawed???

They settle out of court, have you sign a non-disclosure. Keeps profit rolling and others from finding out about the issues till its too late.

Don't forget keep record of everything in a place it won't be effected by what ever it is that caused the loss.

Yes; I hear you there. Tools are tools, then there are good tools.
    My policy specifies "replacement value."

Each item, as I picked it up, I would say,
"Snap On - 1/2" drive - 12" fine tooth ratchet,"
always Manufacturer, kind or type, and then descriptive phrase.
They put it all in an Excel Spreadsheet w/columns under each header.

Wow, just spaced out looking at my avatar.
I never got into the story of my red Maserati in the picture,
(I'm giving the finger to the photographer in that one.)
Looks like I'm waving with a can of beer, but, no, I'm giving him the finger.

    She was named Red.
Red the Maserati just burned in my garage fire. Total loss. RIP miss you.
Built it, (rebuilt it,) myself from two cars; three if you count the rear and rims.
Took me the better part of 4 years. Scary fast.
I thought it would be covered under contents, but no.
It is insurable, so no coverage.
It wasn't on the road, so no insurance.
I don't cherry pick just the good parts.

Your feel good story for the day.

You have to read those policies carefully. Not saying you but Those that just do things online miss a lot in today's world. This is why I still have an agent for my insurance. They take my questions and concerns and take all the guesswork out of it and find me a policy that covers what needs covered.
They also sit down with me and explain every part of the policy and what it does and doesn't cover.

    Rideandrepair and Numb Thank this.
