Heck, nowadays the kids can't even ride in the back of the pickup like we used to do - sitting on the tailgate, no less.

It's sad , they don't know what they're missing. I remember riding in back of Dad's pickup on Sunday afternoon to get ice cream. Just however many kids happened to be around the house at the time. We'd pile in the back of the pickup , ice cream place was the only thing open on Sunday back then . That's charged a lot also.RockinChair, Deere hunter, BigR and 8 others Thank this.

"the good times we had" is the absolute truth!
A friend and I made $.05/bale in the field, and another $.05/bale to stack it in the hayloft, in the mid 80's. He was in 6th grade and I was in 7th. We still reminisce about the good old days.
Somewhere, I still have the hook I bought at a farm sale that first summer.BigR, IH9300SBA, exhausted379 and 9 others Thank this. -
I took a screw-in at .03 cents a bale. Course I was goin steady with the farmers daughter. We had an old 67 ton truck 292 4 speed that had an 8x12 bed you could run stock racks, side boards or flat. I’d borrow it to expedite the process lol. Quicker we had it in the barn quicker we could go to the creek. I can’t swim but I will say the view from the kiddie pool was sure good some days.

For those who are interested in the Iowa trucker situation, there's a post on the Other News thread about him, and autopsy report.

Got my drawings on my trailer from Wilson today! I spec'd this trailer just like the one I currently own, but 52' instead of 50' and a small spread with a lift axle instead of a closed tandem. We haul a lot of cull cows, bulls and big yearlings. With the bigger back gate, no jail and two pull out ramps loading and unloading is tremendous faster and less chance of catching a hip.
