When I was with Fleetline, there was some kind of divide. Contractors could go to Dart and be dispatched in Eagan, MN, or go to Fleetline and be dispatched out of Lancaster, TX. It's been so long that I forget the differences. I want to say it was either a pay scale difference or a running area difference (Fleetline was more southern, Dart was more northern) but it may have been both.
I eventually lost enough money that I got smart and sold my truck. Years later I ended up as a company driver for Dart under the Allpoints banner. The Fleetline brand had disappeared, everyone was running as Dart, and the 57s were few and far between. It wasn't bad at Allpoints. When we got empty near St. Paul, go to the Eagan yard and check in at the window to see what loads were available. If you didn't like anything that was offered, you could check back later. If you got empty after 1700, the phones would be transferred to Eagan and when you called in, you would be given a choice if loads, just like the contractors.
During my time there, someone managed to get a 57 into Georgia and drop it at a customer. I don't remember what became of it, but I remember the folks in Eagan having a meltdown for weeks because of it.The one california kid, Deere hunter and bzinger Thank this. -
