I need the key for this fuel cap. It is from a 1989 Ford L9000 (10-wheeled).
Is there a universal key or is specific to the truck? I bought the truck used and it did not come with the key.
If I can't get the key what should I do? Drill it out? That seems cheaper than bringing out a locksmith. The truck is not driveable at this time.

Even if the key is truck specific, i wouldnt worry about it, that keyhole looks pretty easy to pick, try this first if you have a crappy lockout kit, you have one of these
If that doesnt work and you have plenty of time, maybe order a new cap, and cut that one off.
Or just use a good heavy duty strap wrench and the unscrewing force to bend the tang of the lock mechanism open. Not like the locking caps actually do anything other than slow down the people that own them, theives will just drill a tank if they want in that badBoxCarKidd and beastr123 Thank this. -
Destroy it and put a 1/2? Bolt and an o ring in the hole…have seen more trouble than those things save because they all seem to leak water at some point. For a truck that runs every day probably not a big deal as long as filters get changed regularly, for one that sits around periodically if conditions are right it will allow more water in than a filter can hold. If you’re mad enough you can just grab the cap with both hands and spin it off, the little tab bends out of the way…
