I have a Cat 3406C mechanical engine in a 1997 T800. The truck originally came with a 3406E. I didn't do the swap but it looks to be very well done.
At idle the dash gauge shows 40 PSI oil pressure and around 60 PSI oil pressure when running down the road. However, there are a group of factory idiot lights in the headliner and a "Low Oil" light randomly flashes on and off when driving. My questions is:
Is this light simply a "Low Oil" light that isn't working (The truck uses no oil and is regularly checked), or actually a low oil pressure warning light? Could this be something that wasn't addressed during the engine swap and doesn't work correctly because truck was originally powered by a 3406E and not the mechanical engine.

Install a manual analog gauge so you can see what's really happening.

There is an analog gauge in the dash for oil pressure. Shows 40 PSI at idle and 60 PSI running down the road. Is that what you are talking about?

If it blinks on/off 100 of time while running, then Yes, Its cause the idiot light cluster isnt getting an oil pressure, just turn that light off/remove that bulb, it MAY be possible to trace that wire and add an oil press sensor that reads directly, but pretty sure that cluster takes its info from an ecm... which you dont have... a conundrum for sureW923 and Idaho MTN Driver Thank this.

The oil pressure sensor on the C is down by the oil cooler if it has one. Most did not. I would trust your gauge. Look for the extra wires in the truck harness most likely the one for idiot light is grounding out on something (usually right on connector) when it grounds out that turns light and beeper on. Course you can hook a low oil pressure up to the light and buzzer to alert you if you’re in bunk or just zoned out and not hawk eyeing the gauges. Idiot lights and buzzer do not need ECM info to function. My 91 Pete is full mechanical but will beep if it’s low of water, around 225 or so on temp and below 18 psi on oil pressure.
