You mean a fuel wagon trailer?
Multiple compartments for various products?
The answer is, it depends.
What will you be hauling?
single flavor loads or multiple flavors?
one stop or multiple stops?
speed in loading and unloading, a 3 or 4 hole is tough to beat.
Load flexibility, a 5 hole.
Smaller stores that are split delivery need a 5 hole to accommodate the smaller volumes and range of products.
Harder to do that in a 4 hole.
Most 5 hole have shorter hose trays, which sucks if you’re carrying pump hoses too.
Having run both, i prefer a 4 hole.
Ample hose tray space, fast load and unload, and a little lighter dry weight.
I have a pump truck, so i need the extra space for the extra hoses, but the weight of the pump cancels out the reduced weight of the lighter trailer.
Yesterday i scaled 80260 with 6000 reg/ 2600 dzl, loaded 3000/2000/1000/2600, dzl in back.
My axel weights were 11650/34680/32xxx…
A bit heavy forward, but it pulled great over monteagle.
Some drivers prefer 5, some prefer 4, it’s all in what you’re running and what your needs are.
If i could get a 5 with full length hose trays, I’d grab it up. -
If you're the guy looking for work with a "two axle tractor", fuel ain't it.
Sons Hero, austinmike, wis bang and 1 other person Thank this. -
If he’s running a single axel day cab, he won’t get out of the gate. DOT will OOS that faster than a fat kid eating a cupcakeSons Hero, austinmike, homeskillet and 1 other person Thank this.

I agree. He probably wouldn't even get carded with a single axle tractor and a semi tanker.

Pretty confident they’ll look at that setup and come back with something along the lines of…put that little thing away before you poke your eye out….

Fuel hauling is a game of toeing the line at the weigh stations. equipment is as light and stripped down as technically possible, and stuffing the wagon to the tippy top without going over the limits too much.
I get the stink eye from the scale guys every time…. Always cross it heavy on one axel and slightly over gross, 200-300# over.
I actually made a little sign that says “haven’t poo’ed yet” that I’ll hold up in those times where they’re thinking about pulling me for the rectal exam. We jokingly call getting pulled for inspection getting the finger in the bum…pretty sure that one cop at the Manchester scale swings THAT way. Always looks at us funny….. -
