I only really have one beef with Walmart and this would be it, particularly since a few years ago a shill appeared and not only knew the case I originally read about here and didn’t dispute it but instead chose to defend the company’s actions.
I have no tolerance for dirty pool, nor do I subscribe to the “ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure” theory. That slippery slope is almost as bad as “if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about”. Those two things can be used to justify any conceivable manner of intrusive BS, be it company or government.
That said, if you’re happy there then God bless. I personally just couldn’t take it.Deere hunter, ElmerFudpucker, Old_n_gray and 1 other person Thank this. -
46K as of my last check.
Admittedly though I haven’t been working many Saturdays lately. -

Ok let's get something straight. I've been on this forum for a very long time. I'm not a shill. Like I said, everyone who works at Walmart as a driver or wants to and has read everything on the internet, the expectations there are crystal clear.
I've never claimed to have nothing to hide nor to be perfect. There's no "ounce of prevention" or whatever you are trying to imply. Have you ever worked for Walmart? What do you know about them that you can speak of from first hand experience?
I've been running my own truck for 10+ years before I ditched that and got a W2 job with Walmart. The only oversight I've had as an owner operator before that was "don't violate US DOT regulations". Other than that I was entirely on my own setting up with customers or dealing with problems as they arose. And I dealt with them without anybody to ever hold my hand.
I was leased on to an established 25+ year trucking company for many years (the owner/CEO of which is also a long term member frequent contributor of this esteemed forum and probably reading this lol) before switching to Walmart and the previous company trusted me enough on my own to onboard brand new brokers that the company itself had never worked with before and I was given the tools and authorization to do so. If I had brought anyone on direct contract that would've been cool too.
So, when I tell you Walmart is pretty chill and as long as you're a good driver and they won't bother you, you can take that to the bank.
What do you bring to the table here, other than an axe to grind?Last edited: May 21, 2024
Old_n_gray and dwells40 Thank this. -
Settle down. I’m aware of that, and wasn’t accusing you. I had no idea you were with Walmart until yesterday.
The person I was referring to hasn’t posted here in several years.Old_n_gray Thanks this. -
It is still sad to see owner operators finding a better place at big fleets where you wear uniforms. It means that being an owner operator does not cut it any more, and I am talking seasoned owner operators, not some wannabes with a truck and two credit cards that we have seen so many lately. I had a short episode with WM and couldn't make "a good driver". You must drive ultra defensively without even thinking of changing basses on your radio. All it takes for them to call you from Bentonville is a phone call from a random stranger. It is not necessary to sugar coat it. All of them big fleet are the same. You are on the short leash and have to watch your back all the time. If you can do it, more powers to you. Enjoy their free coffee and free showers. I am not trying to be a dick, just sayin don't be suprised if one day you need to deal with some unwarranted b.s. Good luck.Last edited: Jun 25, 2024

Just my opinion but I think attitude has more to do with it at Walmart than anything. For whatever reason lots of drivers have this "everybody's out to get me" chip on their shoulder. Just drive man and don't worry about BS you don't control. Nobody is out to get you. It's not like that. The alarms and stuff on the trucks are set liberally imo I seldom trigger anything and never have events. As far as the uniforms go I don't have to dirty up my own clothes I think it's great. I've got over $600 worth of carhart bluejeans I can wear a clean pair every day for the next 11 days. I wear em when I'm at home doing yard work or whatever. If they wear out or get a grease stain just trade them for a new pair.Deere hunter, Dennixx, Banker and 3 others Thank this.

Pretty good for 2024. I drove truck from the farm to thd feed mill in the 70,s. 1985-88 construction equipment i was a worker not a driver . 89 I started at the biggest pipeline co in America with 16 divisions. I was in 3 unions which is illegal. No one got there union wages it went off what you did. Most of the yrs I worked on the world’s strongest horizontal drill rig. We had every drilling record. I was trained by an old captain of the state police and in Charge of our crews trk line. I was job site foreman, operator, laborer, mechanic, truck driver, etc. I still had to threaten to get my pay up. Payroll day I would say , I need a 2.00 raise or a 1 way flight home . It was a physical job military guys usually quit in 3-5 days. Only the guys that grew up on farms in the 70,s stayed. In 90 my high check was 1,800 . 94-97 there were some good bonuses for a world record project or working in another country 55,997 k was the highest. Actually 50k was from organized crime in the ne. I was in charge of negotiating the end of union strikes and paying 50 mil to organized crime so we could work in the area without trouble . s. I think it 250 mil in total and 250k a week. 1 project we ko,d in 3 1/2 weeks usually was up to 793 mil a lot in the 400-550 mil range. I quit in 98 I did union construction in the st & hauled equipment. 03 to now a driver no construction. Tanker 03 to 07 then the pay changed. Pulled all kinds of trailers & had ovr 30 driver jobs. A lot of co.s sent bankrupt. I worked for the 1099,s in Chicago in 18 money wasn’t very good. I did tx. Oil field b4 that I made nothing hauling crude oil. Back to a reefer made nothing I trained a X con murder & a military guy neither 1 got anything. Then c19 I worked 9 1/2 months straight then 6 days off then 3 months straight. I made 42k I was in nj. Every week. Back to 1099,s reefer pulling hz , ok money 2,300 - 2,800 & 1 check ovr 3k. I leased for 2 1/2 months dry van Feb 2021 rates dropped hard I switched to co 1099. .80 run 3 14,s in a row in crazy junk I ended up 2 1/2 inches shorter with in a yr. A 1099 % I may hv gotten 3 per mi but the 2 days ld unld killed it and run 38 hrs straight. Other 1099,s .80 run 3 14,s in a row usually 20+ hrs. Always in the upper east to south ne. No miles . But then they fired a driver because he wanted to do a 34 reset. I ran his ld to the west . I never made 4k a week but I did come close 3,997 & some other 3,200 to 3,800. All the money made went into pt and hundreds of injections all ovr mh body. 1099 is a major disaster now always was really. . I claimed against a few co.s putting pressure on the iL. Laber dept and some political people. 1 rep got a little scared and quit. I,m out ovr 300k + . I was thinking about hz tanker again or maybe line haul not sure about Walmart. All the wages are pretty low of all driver jobs imo . I think 5 decades 6 if you include farming is worth 80.00 at least. In 94 a mechanic on the pipeline hhg rig Made 78.00 time and a 1/2 after 8 hrs. Plus 400 a day for his little pu to be on site. Entertainers don’t pay nothing to b driven around either. No body wants a Laborer union job hwy const in gb. Wi. Pays 40.79 plus 9.70 in pension . I,m 57 but in great shape . tree trimming I did that in the 80,s pays great now. Illegals r too small to handle that work. Research 100k people say it’s really nothing anymore. In 94 120k was great.
