Both units are "T5B" models. The serial numbers are not that far apart either. Based on a guess, this is less than 100 units apart.
The original unit SN A 32 T5B 170D64
The Exchange unit SN A 32 T5B 170E47

Wow, I am really upset
about this new GPS unit bing released BEFORE the one on the market has been fixed. I purchased the TND 500 last November. It has never worked even remotely like it should. As we all know in this forum, we can not use any avoids including toll roads or shortest routes (two big issues for me). The multi-stop feature is a joke. It has never worked and the fact that you can not set a via point in a GPS unit is incredibly lame. I could go on here with a few more things that did not work, do not work, and who knows if they every will work. I am getting upset after 6 months. To see another unit on the market before they have fixed this one is not acceptable in my book. The resources used in getting this new unit out should have been utilized to fix the one that we are using now to drive an 80,000 pound vehicle around. By the way, I have reported many errors in the database via the tell Rand button and not a single one has been fixed in six months as well. I know....wait for the update.......good grief.
Thanks,
Steve

Their are some things that I do as offer an restrictive NDA that would allow you to see the next version along with the new maps. The drawback is that you are not allowed to mention any of the new features till the version is made public. And what you will have is a pre-release version, still a Beta Version.
I am very selective as to whom I offer this Restrictive NDA to.
Both the TND 700 software version and the TND 500 software version go hand in hand when the Beta-testers test any version. The version was released to QA, but due to the extensive testing they focus on one at a time. Some other factors were also in play. I cannot go into a lot of details about this. I am working hard along with the product team to release the TND 500 update asap.
I know this sounds like a broken record a lot of the times, but I am not in a position of power at Rand to dictate when a version is released. I want you to along with Rand to get this new version.
If you ever are NC, I am close the the intersection of I-40 and I-77. Their are 3 truck stops in the area. We could sit down and talk.

So Mark, let me understand this ... the TND 700 has the updated software and maps, correct?
So if someone is considering the TND series, if they can afford the extra $100 ... the TND 700 might be the solution, correct?
And I found one on-line store that has plenty of inventory and can ship the TND 700 tomorrow.
Thanks for the info. -
The TND 700 is a good buy if you prefer the larger screen. Yes it has the updated mapping and software.
I cannot say if they have in stock or could ship tomorrow... that is between you and the retailer.
Thanks,

You are correct about the Tom Tom as a PND. Thats why I mentioned the need for the TND 500. There are no restrictions other than weight, and its set at 37000. The Tom Tom will route you to anywhere. Even drilling rigs out in the middle of no where on gravel roads. The Rand cannot locate Sabine Pass Texas or figure out the loop around Houston. If its a routing thing, then I should get a warning and not a loss of function. The Tom Tom warns me about gravel roads and ferries and offers alternatives. Are you telling me that if the TND500 cannot figure a truck route it just wont route you at all? There are truck restricted roads that trucks are allowed on for deliveries. I'll keep messing with the thing and updating it because I have the money invested in it now. From my experience and that of others this thing was released way to early. And yes, it is off the address about 500'. Why is it so hard to fix that? I joined the forum to keep up with what they are doing about this thing. hopefully they can get it right sometime soon. I wont even try the haz-mat routing with it, I cannot afford the fines.

When I purchased the TND, it was 499.99 plus sales tax. Thats over $550 bucks for the thing. 90 days later the cut the retail price by $100.
I understand that on consumer electronics, prices come down pretty fast. But 90 days after shipping a "new" product is bit unusual.
Something I have noticed over the last few weeks. At a number of Pilots, the TND has bee removed from the big end cap GPS displays. At T/As and Petro they are in the back case.
I wonder if this is because they are not selling very well.
At one Pilot, they had a large printed letter from Rand with a phone number and offering a $25.00 gift card for future purchases at the rand on-line store if the unit had a map license problem
