Would you ever pay someone to tarp a load for you?

Nah, if I want it done right, I do it myself.

I worked for a carrier that did drop and hook at Atlas Tubes in Chicago. They had this guy whom they paid I think it was $25 or $35 a load. He did like 10-12 loads before 6:00. He threw one strap where the tarps over lapped. It still took and hour to secure the load and tarps.

 

Load at a number of drywall plants, most of them set tarps. They have you put all your gear on the trailer, they do the rest. You pull out to a finishing position and do the last part of dressing it out. Most of them do this pretty quick and do good work. Usually have like 4 people working. 2 on top, 2 on ground. Done in 15 minutes.

 

I paid a crew in Laredo once. I forget what it was other than awful darn hot outside. I was happy to pay the $25.00.
It's been a few years since I accepted to haul a tarp load. I don't carry any with me.

 

Well it depends. If the conditions were like that one day in Baltimore when I didn't have a raincoat, but what the hey it was only misting to outside. By the time I got done I was soaked head to toe, yep I would've paid somebody!

 

No, throwing a 6’ drop is usually not to bad and the exercise is helpful. Plus, no one could do it a better job than a person that cares the most.

 

It was 8 years ago, so $35 was on the low side of normal, not the cheap side!
