Company Called DOT on Me- If I pay citation am I admitting guilt?

Troll. And not even very good at it either.

 

Never heard of a company calling DOT on a driver. Your violation effects their CSA score as well. I would fight the citation, and find another job immediately.

 

When the driver is outside the HOS and/or we have reason to think they're about to do something "less than intelligent", we will. I can think of one situation where the driver was on their way to the house in Detroit, but ran out of hours around Gary. Driver decided they were going home that night no matter what. MI State Police were notified and the truck was stopped around Benton Harbor. The driver was termed and provided a hotel and a bus ticket while the truck was towed. I don't remember if any citations were issued.

The citation hurts, the tow bill is expensive, and the time/energy of dealing with the situation is significant. All of that is still cheaper than if the driver wrecks the truck in a single vehicle accident. If other vehicles/people get involved the liability is through the roof. If the company can show they were attempting to intervene, they can potentially limit punitive damage.

 

And, as we all know, the company is very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very "risk-averse."

Not that there's anything wrong with or overreactive about that, of course.
