Yeah, easy as

Get a work visa from Australian immigration site and get an Australian truck licence and your away

That easy

If your looking for highway job though you'll need to prove that you've had experience from over there as it's not the transport companies that knock you back from getting the job it's there insurance companies

I'm a Kiwi and I also lived in Brisbane for 10yrs..left Aussie in '02 and immigrated here to the good ole USA.

My Story...
I got lucky (well as it turns out not so lucky) and met and married a USA Citizen in Aussie. He came over first and got a job driving trucks (got me into it as well) and it took 6mths for me to get my '2 yr conditional greencard'. It was conditional because we had not been married for 2 yrs prior to coming here. Once the 2yrs where up I applied for the standard unconditional 10yr card, however my husband decided that he liked someone else much better and left me before the required interview for the greencard came up. Long story short it took 7yrs for me to get my unconditional 10yr greencard.... They let me stay and work so it was not really that bad.

One thing I noticed on visit back home was that in NZ they had companies advertising for Drivers for the states, they would pay your airfare over here, help organize your paperwork/visa etc. and line you up with a job as well. Of course they would get paid back through the company you work for and I don't know this for a fact but the 'cents per mile' would be less than others because of the deal. I don't know all the details but it might be something to look into.

I have also seen companies in Aussie trying to get Drivers from the states to go to Aussie and drive trucks there...

Will definately keep you all informed how i go about this, those companies you were referring to can no longer do that at moment as the economic downturn in US has turned a lot of US citizens to the transport industry once they were laid off there current jobs and as such the government states that they MUST give US citizens first choice at any job available

What's the economy and job situation like in New Zealand and Australia? Not as bad as the U.S. I hope...

I had a friend try to emigrate to NZ a few years ago & it was so difficult he just gave up.

I'm not sure about OZ, I was there in 1972 on a college program & all the Aussie guys wanted to do was get drunk, fight with us & come on to our women. I think NZ might be a kinder, gentler experience.
