Looking for advice is a 6 day work week worth it for local?

    I research on here, youtube, and groups on facebook. Some companies though I can't find info on except the website. I do prefer smaller companies and those that require experience.

    Sorry. IMO an online only search, unless you find drivers doing that particular job, at that particular terminal, for that particular customer account aren't worth much. The company that wants you to work for them knows the phone number of a driver doing the job you just applied for. Make the company connect you and one of those drivers. There are too many drivers on this forum that just wanted the online only info looking for any job months later because the online info was old or inaccurate, forgot to mention something that recently changed. Get over your shyness. Changing jobs is a big deal.

    I’d be looking at RaceTrac, WAWA, Publix, or any other privately owned fleet. You’ll make way more money, have way better benefits, and a better life than any “for hire” carrier could ever offer you. Being in Orlando > Lakeland area has so many more driver opportunities than any other area of Florida.

    Well.....look at it this way. At least they're giving you a good chunk of change to do a 6 day work week. You'll have to choose hobbies or money....I have found it difficult to have both in my time as a cdl holder. Others may have a different story, but I'm only telling mine. Gotta give more to get more in life more often than not.

    Trying to find a middle ground. I told that company I was no longer interested due to the 6 days on. Unfortunately they don't have OTR where I live so I'll be continuing my search for the right fit.

    Long term, over a year or two, 6 days will burn you out but if you're in dire straits, you go ahead and tough it out.

    I always look for a job as if I'm going to stay there long term. It just usually doesn't work out that way. My last trucking job I wanted it to be my last, I loved it, but was laid off. So middle ground for me, decent pay good PTO and treated right are important to me.

    I personally hate local if its 6 days. Factoring in cost of gas, your personal vehicle depreciation, and 1 hour of commute time daily, and if you only have 10 hrs off then you really only have 9 with the commute time. Better to just sleep 2 ft away from the steering wheel if you want to do 6 days

    Whoo boy is that a tricky one. Depends on the pay and the work.

    I worked once upon a time a 6 day a week job with a 45-60 minute commute one way. On call so you never knew if you were punching out at 11pm and had to punch in at your 10hr on the nose or if you wouldn't get called in until 8pm the next night to come in for 2 hours to wash trucks because there was no work. Typically 55-60 hours a week.

    What was absolutely infuriating was when you'd get called in at 7am to turn on your 10 and jump out of bed, race into work fighting traffic because they called you 30 minutes before you were supposed to clock in despite living an hour away and walking up to the time clock on to have the boss say the shift was covered anyways, go back home and be back at 9:30am. No compensation for any of this either. "Oh, and by the way, you're lucky to have a job here kiddo, present yourself like it, you're not clean shaven and professional with that 5 o'clock shadow."

    The company relocated across state lines to not pay overtime. So I was paying dual state income taxes and also had a 90+ minute commute everyday. Lost 40 lbs from not having time to even eat and never sleeping more than 5-6 hours.

    The money was insane until I never got OT and had to pay a bunch of state income taxes plus gas. I got to where I was sleeping on the bench seat of my truck in the parking lot in single digit temps. I ended up quitting. Also there was a time where we had a rotation of running recaps so ever I think 6 weeks we worked 12 days straight but Saturday and Sundays through that turn were like 5-6 hours.

    6 day work weeks suck if you're not rolling in the money and close to the job. Especially if it is a randomized deal where you might have 12-14 hour days plus 2 hours of commute.

    I wish I had a previous jobs schedule. 3 14 hour days and sometimes 4 day weekend of a 6-10 hour day on the 4th day.

    As I get older, have a harder time sleeping, and the arthritis gets worse and worse, I'm about to the point of saying #### working more than 40 hours a week. I've ground myself into the dirt running hard since I was 18-19 years old. I'm not slap broke by any means but I ain't rich and don't have any realistic ability to retire at any age I'd live to.

    Don't know if you said how old you are driver but having a life is more important than a job. If I could do it all over again, I'd stay the #### out of trucking and just have room mates or maybe find a girlfriend to share an apartment with and work some kinda boring busy work job. I got into trucking chasing money and hustling and pushing myself to the limits year after year. All I've know is work and sleep for almost a decade now. It's not worth it. Especially having health problems kick up before you even had hit 30 years old. Can't even remember the last time I woke up and didn't say God #### it.
