You’re not late to the party. I’m afraid that the party just started.

Got the truck back yesterday and today it seems like nothing was resolved…maybe my imagination but twice I stopped today and it was in a passive regen. I hit the manual regen switch and it wanted to go into a full regen…I terminated it and kept rolling.

Left Idaho Falls this morning and at the Loves in Sydney, NE for my ten.

Hauling 38k in the box and pretty much ran 76mph all day..imo it shouldn’t be going into a regen.

I’m exhausted right now and cell/ internet service here is horrible otherwise I’d upload the Bill / job details.

Turns out it wasn’t under warranty but that’s no surprise. Service manager was probably thinking of another customer truck.

Will post more tomorrow once I’m in a better area.

Engine. If the engine has an issue causing it to release excessive particulates you're going to see frequent regens as well. The worst part is the DPF is supposed to capture the particulates so there's no real quick and easy way to see if its an emission system/sensor fault or an engine issue.

One thing mentioned was that it could be injectors dumping too much fuel. Supposedly that’s what one of the codes hinted towards.

Unfortunately they never completed the follow up with Cummins.

Total bill from the dealership was $1,6xx and I had them replace a defective fan belt.

Between that and the motel I feel like I paid $2k for a fan belt installed.

I just hate dealerships and not being able to talk with the technicians directly.

You need to find a small dealer. One with a less than a dozen people on the shop floor.

That's my experience as well. I'm on a first name basis with the lead mechanic at the dealer, and it has helped the communication greatly.

Hoping you can get delivered without issue. Not saying the options are any better, but there are definitely more options back east.

    Might try looking at nttsbreakdown.com

Find a shop and then check their reviews online. Like our local, terrible Doggett Freightliner, the online reviews are accurate.

    Good luck

Yesterday I hammered it full throttle all shift through ID, UT and WY..had issues.

Today, NE 67mph (never happens but 7.5 mpg was nice) Iowa, 65-70 mostly but did hammer it up a few hills. Stopped once for fuel and had absolutely no problems. No passive or parked regents.

I’m starting to believe it could be a bad injection dumping too much fuel and overwhelming the DPF.

Is there any way to test the injection system or do I just have to wait for it to throw another code? Waiting for it to give a code means screwing up the DPF again.

    Sorry for my ignorance :)

The DPF pressure sensors are very problematic. Money well spent to proactively replace it, even if not covered under warranty.

As far as the engine goes, make sure a snap throttle or smoke test is performed with DPF off to see if excess smoke is detected from the engine. A good indicator of an upstream issues as @AModelCat already mentioned.

Proactively have them run an injector performance test and a DPF regen analyzer for a pass result. Cleaning the IMAP and EGR mass flow assembly of carbon or build up is a a good preventative inspection.

Otherwise, let the ECM do its work and look into CEL or MIL lights as they occur. Don’t wait and ignore them.

Been to Dodge City Kenworth a few times..actually bought my first truck from them.

Was a small staff , nice to deal with and they always got me in right away. Call me nutz but I use to go to Dodge almost weekly for a couple years..kind of like it there.

Going to try finding a load towards there after I drop in Maryland.
