Hi, Thanks for looking, Would you go to CDL school at the local Community College and then to Stevens or just go to Stevens and take their course? I got a call from Stevens inviting me to start with them should my application all check out. Thanks. TD.

Hi, I just got a call from Stevens Transport telling me that if my application works out that they would invite me to Dallas and to go to their school, I'm all set up(almost) to go to my Community College and then to see what is out there after I get thru school, I have been putting a few feelers out there to see what is available. Stevens called and told me a little about it... What do you duggest? Go to Stevens and take their training and go to work for them? Go to my Community and then to Stevens or where ever? What would you do? Thanks. TD

Definately take the community college route!!

I SAY AGAIN: TAKE THE COLLEGE ROUTE:

Steven's CDL school is signing yourself away to them as a slave for a year or they'll charge you BIG $$ for the CDL school and interest.. Stevens also trys like heck to talk their students to lease a truck right out of school.... BAD idea.. Do your own homework if you don't belive me.. but hey you asked.. I gave my opinion, I hope I'm not too late..

Well. A few things play into that. If you attend Steven's school, then you are locked in to work for them for at least a year, and i've heard for longer than that. You would have to sign a contract.

If you get your cdl at an independent school, then you are free to shop around and check out multiple companies.

That's what I'm doing. I do have a pre-hire letter from Stevens, but I'm attending a school in Florida.

I guess it comes down to what you really want. Do you want to only work for Stevens...or do you want to have other options when you get your cdl. Having options is always good IMO.

I went to a school of my choice, so that I would not be an indentured servant to a company for a year or longer to pay them back for their school.

Now if you pay for your own school, and then go to Stevens, they will pay you $25 per week for the tuition you paid.

    That is what I did.

definatly go the community college route, you really don't want to be holden to any company, If I would of went to the school of my first company I'd still be at that company paying it off, instead of a not so cozy local gig now...lol
