So while pulling the engine/transmission out of an old international dump truck, the chain on the back of the engine broke and the cast iron transmission cracked in both front and back sections. Ouch.
The gears and parts inside are likely still good (TBD) and I'm looking for a good used case to reassemble with new gaskets, seals, etc., etc. as good used ones are pretty pricey and most have a core charge (my old core isn't likely to get full credit).
I'm having trouble finding a like for like core at a reasonable price and wondering whether the cases are all the same on the 10 speed models. The one that broke was an RT6610 with a 1.75" spline an a 28.3" overall case length. 10 speeds with 2" splines are obviously much easier to find and look very similar but the transmission length showing up on the eaton charts for most of those is 28.9".
I did find an a used RTF910 at a reasonable price. It's 200 pounds heaver and would probably require some extra support. The seller claims it has a 1.75" spline. Maybe that's the best route as I'm wanting to preserve the 10 speed gearing I have now rather than going down to a 6 speed.
Looking forward to feedback and ideas from anyone with experience on these.

The 610 and 6610 are totally different animals that the “big” transmissions like the 910 and such
Nothing will interchange other than probably the clutch cross shaft.
I would also guess you have a sae2 housing and most of the big transmissions will have a 1…a 2 should be available but might be hard to find.
A 613/6613 will have the same front box but not the rear.
I have no idea where you are located but I do have a 7 speed from a 90s ih single axle truck tractor if that’s of any interest pm meaustinmike, Oxbow, Hopeaholic and 2 others Thank this. -
I put a 9510 in place of a 7 speed once in a fertilizer spreader truck. The bell housing was hard to find and you cannot get that for anything above a 9 series. Have to have one with the correct top plate location but the old shift tower bolted right up. Just shortened the shaft, shift knob and no rear support. Worked out very well and easy.
austinmike, Oxbow, W923 and 1 other person Thank this. -

I do not remember the SAE number. It was the smaller one behind a 3126. Took the 2 inch shaft out and put in the 1.75 shaft. No big deal.W923 and Hopeaholic Thank this.

I found that smaller housing from TH Evans in Athens. They are an LKQ deal now.
W923 Thanks this. -
Thanks little cat 500, I'm 99% sure that is the bigger 10 speed with the 2" spline that weighs around 700 lbs (about 2X more than the RT6610).W923 Thanks this.
