Good evening truckers. I'm going to end up in Blaine, WA later this week and am trying to plan ahead. What do I need to pick up a load just over the border? I don't have my passport but I have my TWIC. Will this be enough assuming I have a clean record?

Without a passport you’re not getting across the boarder. Full stop.
edit: I forgot about an enhanced drivers license. I believe only 5 states that boarder Canada issue them.Last edited: Jul 29, 2024
EvertonP, Another Canadian driver, gekko1323 and 2 others Thank this. -
… do you have an enhanced license?
If you do you know what it is.
It will work. Twic only = noAnother Canadian driver and gekko1323 Thank this. -
I guess I'll start carrying my passport when I hit the road. Will the passport card work? I'd hate to take my whole book with me.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

I have both but only carry my passport. It’s good for land and sea travel in North America.Another Canadian driver and gekko1323 Thank this.

It's a pretty involved deal to get a load out of Canada into the US, and vice versa. Not a big deal with the appropriate paperwork, but without it, impossible.
BC has their own insurance requirements, and US carriers have to add that to their policy. Then the spread axle rules, import paperwork, import brokers that have to inspect freight IIRC.
You're better off going south for a load south.
Crossing for a load is not near as simple as crossing for fun. And the freight rates out suck now. Too many Volvos headin south with cartoon characters on the side of the cabLast edited: Jul 31, 2024

Yeah, my concern is that I'll be stuck in Blaine. There are a couple of brokers offering 28-ft dry van loadouts to Phoenix for $700. But what the hell am I gonna do with that? I wouldn't even know how to begin to look for those type of loads. Man, the rates out of the PNW are putrid, unless they are short hauls. So even deadheading down to Seattle might not yield a decent haul. I just wanna get back home. I've been out here for over 6 weeks now.Another Canadian driver, Oxbow and Big Road Skateboard Thank this.

I was thinking your area was around SW Oregon? Yeah, rates have really gone down up there.
I've run out to the PNW since I started, but haven't crossed the Cascades since around the first of the year.Another Canadian driver, Oxbow and gekko1323 Thank this. -
Have you ever been convicted of any crime since you turned 18?
Another Canadian driver, Oxbow, gekko1323 and 1 other person Thank this.
