On the DOT health requirements, I wonder if I will have any problems. I had heart bypass surgury in 2004. I didn't have a heart attack only mild angina. So, I have no heart damage as a result of this event. I only take Toprol which slows my heart rate slightly. No other heart medications. I do take a blood pressure medication to lower my pressure to around 120/70. Are there any red flags here?

as long as the doc clears you your good to go but with the blood pressure meds you probably only get a 1 year certification

Thanks for the answer. I guess I'll take what I can get. One year at a time isn't too bad.

Shouldn't be a problem unless you have diabetes too, as it can mess with your blood sugar levels.

Blood pressure meds will not stop someone from getting a two year card.
High blood pressure will. If it's under 140/90 using meds to keep it there you can still get a two yr. card.

I guess I'm lucky. I didn't really have a heart attack, just angina, and had no damage done to my heart. I take Toprol to lower my heart rate but besides a mild blood pressure medication I don't take anything else for my heart.
I talked to my Doctor last week. He can do the physical and see's nothing that would stop me from passing. Actually my health is good for my age, I hate when they say that.

I am a border line type 2 diabetic and take metformin. This medication and my low carb diet keep my A1C tests in the normal range, 5.1. Over the road it will be a challenge to keep my diet under control, but it is do-able.,

That's good news. My blood pressure is very much under control.
