I have drank gallons of whiskey, BARRELS of beer over a very long time and then just stopped drinking to get in better health. The only wierd thing is all the sudden my temper is a little shorter. I will sometimes snap like a gator then think to myself where the h*ll did that come from. The strangest thing is the desire for candy and lately I had my wife buy molasses which I put in my coffee. Anyone else go through the cold turkey?![]()
Quit drinking?

I never really drank that much, but I guess if your body is used to having a certain chemical in it's system, and then is immediately deprived of it, that odd changes will happen until your body is free and clear.
ironhand Thanks this. -
Yup. Supposedly, alcohol is good for you in moderation of course. I am not drinking at all now
-
Alcohol, nicotine and caffeine are all more difficult to quit than a lot of folk realise, maybe because they are not illegal substances.
So Swaps is right, the body gets used to having them circulating, so when they go it has to adjust.
But you have done the cold turkey bit now, good job, just allow time for the adjustment and you will be fine!ironhand Thanks this. -
Google the connection between chocolate, etc., and alcohol. Interesting reading!

I drank for years and quit cold turkey in 2004. In the following years, my thyroid quit working, my cholestorol shot up and I now have diabetes.

I was in better shape when I drank, lol.ironhand Thanks this. -
Thyroid can be destroyed by radiation or mercury.....cholestorol? well my IMHO, the drug companies push drugs on the populace and different races have different genetic makeup according to thier diets from generations. I have had high bp and cholestoral my whole life. I got through DOT phys on NO medication I ate so much oatmeal I looked like the guy on the box
I like to drink but seem to drink too much according to standards of our society and I am not Irish so I just quit for now see what happens...I have had one glass of wine and two beers since starting this drinking thread. Good luck on the thyroid thing hope your seeing a doctor that is SERIOUS
-
I spend my monthly hometime at the doctors
and have everything under control except the diet. The thryroid thing is serious and I felt real bad for a whole year when diagnosed. It took a year to build up to the medication I'm at and feel normal again. Funny you mention radiation as I have a home desk top monitor that burns my eyes and lids so bad like welding burn if you ever experienced that. I contacted HP and they insured me the monitor was safe. I disagreed and it sits in a closet now. I just use my laptop anymore. I suspected it might of killed my thyroid but have no way to prove it.
I'd love to get drunk again, but beer taste horrible now where I can't enjoy it anymore. -
Condo i have worked with multiple monitors and all brands work identically. This also goes for your laptop display, whatever you're experiencing isn't a result of the monitor.
As far as drinking goes, when I went in with a major prostrate infection, the dr asked if I was drinking any. I told him yes I drink on occasion, he then told me that was the only thing that was allowing me to still be walking is the alcohol helped me tolerate the pain.ironhand Thanks this. -
I got sick last week because I normally drink alot of Mountain Dew then I went to straight water and Gatorade. I noticed I started feeling kind of sick and felt like I couldn't get enough to drink with water but I would drink a pepsi and notice that it quinched my thirst but following that my stomache started turning and felt like I wanted to be sick. I'm also down to about 3-4 smokes a day from smoking a pack to a pack and a half a day. My fuse is shorter but with working out I'm starting to notice I can breath easier.
As for alcohol, well I don't think I'll ever give that up. Sense pot isn't legal drinking is the alternitive. When home time come's, it's straight to the "candy" store. But now that I have my daughter I have slowed way down but doubt I will ever give it up.
Hey lonewolf, did you give up driving for good?ironhand and TXtrucker71 Thank this.
