As things are now the others are not wrong with their Nay sayings.
They are speaking from a limited perspective though. I will bluntly state that Electric trucks are in no way shape or form ready for OTR trucking as the business model exists today. I do not see them as a viable alternative for a couple of decades because of infrastructure and cost issues.
They may be functional/practical for urban short haul deliveries and pickups where they can recharge overnight at the terminal. Stuff like beer, soda, and Potato chip delivery routes.
Where we may see them become a focus is Port drayage on the west coast. The trucks that pick up in the port and take to an import warehouse for cross docking the freight to a delivery/OTR truck.
Alternate we are seeing starting up out here is relay trucks. Trucks that run dedicated Distribution center to distribution center or terminal to terminal. As an example: overnight freight is transported between LA Metro and San Fran Bay Area by LTL companies. A truck with trailer leaves both areas, they swap trailers around Kettleman City, CA and then go home, the drivers get to sleep in there own beds every day. Same happens with Triples from Reno to SLC, with a swap over in Carlin, NV. This process has been expanded to move freight from LA to Portland/Seattle area. Freightliner, with a large facility in Portland, is working with some large carriers to refine their battery electric product on this route.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
