I'm considering buying this truck to use in my business - everything seems to be good except the check engine light. It sounds good, runs well.... My stepson (diesel mechanic in training/school, still) has looked it over and can't seem to find anything. He bought the diagnostic tool and we'll try that tomorrow.
Anybody have some thoughts as to what we might check? It's not tagged right now so we're trying to avoid any issue when taking it through inspection otherwise, we'd roll it to the shop.
Also, my brother lives in NC - he says they wouldn't fail for CE. I'm not sure about that here in Delaware.
Thanks so much.

Get the code, check the code, fix the code, no more code.
There should be a black button on the left side that when pressed blinks the Morse code on the instrumental panel giving out the numbers that are stored in the processor. But check the coolant level sensor first. -
Thank you so much - we'll try that.

When you guys post a question like this, post the year, engine and transmission.
This helps us tell you what to look for or what to do.
Some engines don't have an ECM that has stored errors.goga and Big Road Skateboard Thank this. -
Do you have an Emissions test in DE (assuming that's where you will register)? If so, it probably will fail. CO has emissions test law, and mine failed for a CE light. And it was only that the CE light bulb was out. I had to come back and pay for another test.

Thank you all for the information. Sorry for not posting more about the engine and transmission. I don't have it here but will get it and post later. I remember that it's a 2006 Freightliner FL60 with a Mercedes engine.
We couldn't find any "black button" but using some information I found here (thanks to whoever that was about using the cruise control settings) we did get codes ECU128 and ABS136. So at least we have a little more info than we did.
MRMTRANS - we do have emissions testing in Delaware but so far, what I've read and from what we have been told, that they don't check this at this weight (MGVWR 25,500). We're going to try running it through inspection and see how that goes.

Nice. I was referring to Detroit engine, as I know most of Freightliners have them. Good luck with Mercedes.

Thanks anyway for the help. It just pointed us in a direction to keep looking.
I posted that early this morning and meant to put that it has a 6-speed manual transmission.
