They all got a lil different attitude I believe. That black truck was glad to be gotten out from under that tree where I found it. Didn’t care what it pulled just didn’t ever want go back to Muscle Shoals…… It may have been 2 years or so after I went back to work for Bailey before I hooked it to a hopper just a rescue deal. It sure give that hey wtf I mean I’m not trying to complain but I ain’t wanting to go back. Dumbest #### I’ve ever admitted right here. I was headed across 86 probably 2 months after it was still in Dodge. Getting along pretty good headed to Rome Pa. 86 is really low volume activity night or day especially night. I can’t explain it I got chill bumps and that feeling hey you said you’d be back. It’s been a long time. I’m scared don’t leave me out here. Idk how long it was out there. March 2 530 in the morning. It was 5:45 pm looking back at it as we drove out the gate. I flew out to West Virginia and picked up this one. Wasn’t so sure but #### it were here. Hooked to that little drop deck I had built to haul hay with the ramps and lit out. Crossing into Kansas a friend called and said that blitz week started day before. I had screwed with them people all I wanted the insurance finally settled with tow company and he said I could have my truck. I wanted it. So I didn’t go by IRP, put my numbers on nothin. Literally went straight to Dodge via home to hook to the trailer. So here I am gotta run the gauntlet with out the first hint of well I had my DL and proof of insurance on my phone that’s it. The whole way I was sure hoping this thing had that invisibility cloak. Some trucks plain as day seem to have a bulls eye. Come outta Leon and sure nuff they was knee deep and cheap. Had m’fers on the shoulder and the one ramp stacked up like cord wood. Welp can’t stop now. They was set up at a wide just east of Pratt we just eased right on by. That guy that owns southwest is a first rate prick tells me again wtf you want this for it’s junk. So I open the door turn key and it’s dead. Pull the battery box and it’s empty. I had a fit, it wasn’t the batteries were gone it was I had a point sbd that sucked the wind out of it. So I pull 2 off my brown truck. It rolled 3 times and come to life. I tell him that’s why now let’s get my junk on my trailer. He took his wheel lift and backed it on slick as could be. I’m not flat bedder or low boy hand and I done the best I could seriously had 1 long chain 2 shorter ones and 5 ratchet binders. Look I know that math doesn’t math but that’s why i don’t do it unless it’s special cases. When I come outta his office after paying for 2 weeks of storage at 115 a day, and 500 to load it looking across the lot at the pair I give a sigh of relief that. I started a thing with it years ago of long hood take us home. I realized I had change that to let’s go home. Backed in the drive at Midnight. Jacks blocks and chains to nhold the steer but she come off the trailer under her own power. I’m glad it was only 10 feet lol. They is a little loafin shed off to the side of the house I put it under. I ain’t crazy bout putting it in the shop. Everyone says it’s just a truck, it can be replaced. That’s incorrect I can get another truck but that one can’t be replaced. Every time I left in that truck I got home safe. Every time I left in it I never had any doubt, it always left me an out. I never had a second of fear in the seconds before I knew I was fine. But I was livid cause I knew my ride was gonna take the bullet. It’s like my Trigger. Sure Roy kept cowboy in after Trigger bit the bullet but couldn’t have been the same. (No nothing bout Roy rodgers that’s all I got) these guys thinking a look or a truck or what they do makes em a ###### I can’t agree with. Whether it’s a one smoke pole FLD on steel wheels or who ever is on top this week large we all doing it. Can’t everyone ride Trigger. Confidence is worth it’s weight in gold. I miss my cow deal but we are ready to slow down. I miss it for different reasons than most do it for. I never done it cause I thought it looked cool or to drive cool #### cause it doesn’t happen like that for all of us. I done cause I enjoyed working with cattle. The adrenaline of standing toe to toe with a fat steer that’s looking at that gate knowin it ain’t latched and your sure he’s bluffin…..or at least really hoping. Those packer cow round ups hit in 2 or 3 barns a night then a several hundred mile ride. I liked the quiet side of it. You walk past that trailer and sound of a stomp or that soft mooo out in dark. Something to that. Or getting your stock last outta 4 loadin chutes at Joplin and being the first one out while everyone else is having a kicking screaming fit. I owe that to an ol cowhauler that’s no longer with us. Joplin has long alleys and they suck. Every one loads from behind the alley natural deal. Don’t do that. Make sure your man gate in is closed rule #1. Then open the alley side gate run your cut into pen beside alley. Way it’s layed out it’s smaller and square they won’t run for the back corner. It also puts you right beside that big long ### alley lmao. You just never know where you gonna find good info. For folks that has loaded at Joplin that’s what that long gate that’s bout half the alley is for lol.

The little brown truck has a layed back attitude. She’ll go if you put your spurs in her ribs but she ain’t one you gotta ride with a spade bit. She works good with a bosal. It’s hard to get used to the quiet at night. Doc does nothin quiet he’s like a bull in a China closet. I’ve tried with several litters of pups cause I’d like to keep a little piece of him. But I can’t seem to find that one. An old cowboy told me 1 time you only get 1 good dog, 1 good horse in a lifetime. A few cowboys get lucky and get a good woman then you gotta choose between cowboy in and her. You’ll never raise a family on 200 a week and buyin your own gear. Since there’s a limit and I’ve reached that I’m gonna concentrate on the time I got left with him. Keep the lights on and let the rough side drag. We gonna be fine no doubt about that. View attachment 525573 View attachment 525574 3406C full mechanical 6 plus 4 spicer 3:55 gears on tall rubber. They shut the dyno down at a little over 1800 rpm at Joplin freightliner. It was at 680 and 2000 torque. I wanted to go to 2100 he said no can do our dyno is getting hot and cannot stand that kinda pressure.

The day I brought it home, to less than 24 hours before. I had it down to the frame 2 years ago. Wanting to slow down like this I’d love to still have it. I’m not saying it wouldn’t take a #### on ya. But it would get you through it. I don’t think Cooter has building another one left in him. Boys that’s the final chapter on Lost Cause.

Thought some here might enjoy this. I saw him in Illinois on Saturday. He was driving it from Boston to Walcott to go in the Iowa 80 museum. It was an air start and the whole 9 yards.

The guy that I used to run wrecker for in the winters had an old CornFlake with an air starter and a jo-dog that he used for retrieving trailers, and if I remember correctly it had one of those gutless V-8 Cummins in it. I could be wrong on the engine.

True... First one I ever saw live scared the hell out of me, and I wondered as he moved off, what was the water heater tank on there for.
