Moose i would agree with ya , but youngins today will sit in the same room and text each other not saying a word , ive seen it . Also , you need a logchain and a halftrack to pull'em outside , for you and i being made to stay indoors was a punishment and a dam cruel one on a nice day .

Children today rarely interact with other children. Times have changed. Plenty of parks here and swimming pools, but rarely any children at either. May seem odd since it's summertime here 12 months a year. I see school buses unloading children and they quickly head home and rarely talk to each other. They walk from the bus stop to home while staring at their phones. Don't see them out and about in the neighborhood riding bikes or playing ball like when we adults were growing up.
Having said all that, I side with @jaws2003 on taking his son with him on the road.

It's so different nowadays that my wife don't even get out of the bedroom to tell the kids to do something. I get up and walk to their bedrooms to get em to do what I ask. She just calls them, yet we are all under the same roof. Times are different for sure. OP is involved in his son's life. Just because it differs philosophically from a different era, doesn't mean it's bad.

Time is telling the story and from my perspective kids are getting themselves shafted and parents are making excuses for them after the fact.

Exactly!!! I would say it's totally the inverse now. Anyone over the age of 35 staying in all day would be a bore but these kids that's their joy as they have cell phones, tablets, Playstation and Xbox, YouTube and countless apps to capture their attention.

Even if you went back to the old ways there are many people who don't agree with these things in this current environment. The only way for you to get those things would be to leave the county.
