Hello i have a question about a 75ft cx-09 cottrell wheel/tire options. if i get a trailer with 22.5 can i just swap the wheels to 19.5 or do i have to change out the axle?
Also are 19.5 that much better to make it down to height?
i am in the northeast so everything has to be 13'6-13'9 depending on where i am going
19.5 vs 22.5 cottrell cx-09 trailer

The 19.5 uses different brakes. So you could reuse the axle itself, but everything from the brake spiders out would have to changed, which makes it fairly expensive.beastr123 Thanks this.

I run 22.5s because the rep that helped me build my original rig strongly suggested 22.5. He was right and I don’t have near the tire issues some of my friends have with 19.5 wearing prematurely.
When hauling half tons over top of small suvs 13’6 isn’t usually a problem. -
I have swapped up to 22.5s, but never down. In the NE I would prefer 19.5s and I suggest you find one that doesn't need altering. There are a lot more trailers on the market now and 19.5 tires are a lot more abundant as well. Off brands did just fine, but I always went with 285 vs 265...

You can easily swap rim sizes without changing the axle’s. We have to do it up in Canada all the time when we buy used trucks from down south. Availability for brake parts and tires for the 19.5’s is tough up here plus we can run higher so the 22.5’s are fine.

Going from 19.5--->22.5 is easy, it's a wheel swap. Going the other way, the 16x7 drums have to swapped to 15x8 5/8, and that's a different spider and brake cam. So yes, you can use the axle tube and hub, but everything else has to be changed out.

Yes I was only referring to his question about going up in size. I’ve never known anybody that’s gone down a size. But there is a guy running 24.5 low profiles around here. Not sure what he had to do to make it fit.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
...just imagine I run 17.5s ...I absolutely hate them

A friend of mine ran them on a step deck and said they sucked. He bought a RGN and sold the step. I believe he runs the same size 22.5’s on the RGN as I use.pavrom Thanks this.
