Stupid Question about dry van.

    I bought a different dry van a few months ago. 2005 Wabash duraplate. Has been a great trailer so far. Much nicer than my previous one. My question is it has a sliding metal door with a grate over it near the front where the wood floors end. Is that considered a vent or what is that? I have only ever pulled this trailer and my previous one so my trailer knowledge is pretty limited. Thanks!

    Thats so you dont sufficate the people being smuggled in the trailer.
    Looks low capacity.... is there a vent door at front top ? That will help boost the number

    I don't believe there are any other ones. 100% isn't any in the doors. 95% there isn't any other ones in the front of the trailer either. I will have to look again to be 100%. Wasn't to worried about it but I have seen some vented van product loads lately that I might be interested in. My previous trailer had the much more standard venting with hatches in the front and rear.

    Never seen that before but my guess would be maybe just a sweep out drain. Maybe the original owner use those special for what their operation was. I have my great grandfathers 1947 fruehauf that has removable floor boards in a few places to clean out the cotton seed they used to haul back in the day.

    Grain door. My guess is the hoist couldn’t lift a full trailer so they dump that door over the pit and then drop the trailer on the lift to dump the rest out the back. We used to have to dump some out like that before they rebuilt the hoist in Lewiston ID.

    Thats exactly what it is. From what I understand used to be pretty common to haul loads of bulk grain like that.

    Most of the elevators in eastern MT had long augers coming off the leg. They were probably 40ft long or so, the vans and reefers would back up to them and start piling the wheat right about the landing gear, give or take.

    Wow thanks! I never would have guessed. I hadn't really seen anything like it in a dry van before. Appreciate all the answers and feedback! I also had no clue dry vans ever floor loaded grain of any kind.
