Hi everyone! I am opening a business in the trucking industry. Being a driver myself, I wanted to ask others for recommendations for good freight brokers. I'm based out of PA but intend to hire drivers for OTR. Any suggestions?

My first thought is don't! hire drivers. Run your truck yourself for a while and learn. Or lease your truck to a carrier.
The only way I have found to find the ones I like, is running for them. Business interaction. Many good agents and brokers.
Are you subscribed to a load board? Right now, the freight pay is less than favorable towards the carrier.
Could be the Shippers are paying good rates and the brokers are keeping a bigger share, because the truck to load ratio is the brokers' advantage.
Could be the Shippers are paying less for the same reason. Unless you have a direct shipper you won't know. Even if you do have a direct shipper you still may not know.
Subscribe to a Freight Collection Agency's delinquent list.
Get a customer is your best way to receive the most revenue. IF you know the rates for your area.

So you’re going to hire drivers without any business. That is very tough. I would start by getting the equipment needed, finding a customer to serve, and filling in the gaps with broker freight. If needed you can drive yourself until you find an appropriate driver then you could buy more equipment and add drivers as the volume increases. -Always knowing that your customer can drop you and you’ll be back to square one. Starting a business working primarily for third-party logistics. is very risky, especially when the market turns. Many have done this and are no longer here with us.

Whoever lied to you about making the big bucks in the trucking industry. They are not your friend. Manage a convenience store, and throw your money at the stock market. That way if you lose it all, it's without the headaches and grief.
