Pacific Northwest has trash rates for flatbed 99% if the time of rates so I'm rarely out there.

Sometimes in winter it pays but that's it.

Well yeah because you’re not set up to do it. You can’t roll into an area that pays by the board foot and expect to get much done at 80k gross. But there are quite a few people like my old boss that have built companies running exclusively in an area that you say has trash rates. He’s only been in the game since 1978 though.

Bring up comparing built companies with direct customers and random dude on a load board in same breath lol okay.

Any company has more leverage than a one truck dude.
Most big money shippers won't even speak to a guy with one truck.

You’re the one who said NW flatbed rates are trash 99% of the time. I simply pointed out that your generalized statement isn’t true.

Okay trash for load board rates, is that more specific for your satisfaction?

Actually, there are some good rates on flatbed from the PNW and northern Cal. You just have to know where to find them and be set up to haul. Finished lumber, KD, S4S, and finished molding pays very well once you find the right company and get established.
Five thousand bf is kind of a minimum load if you want to make money. Most shippers want the carrier to be able to pack at least 50 thousand lbs. The loads are usually right up on 80 grand.
You have to make an effort to provide the service, have good tarps or a covered wagon, and do what you say you're going to do. No excuses . A perpetual whiner usually won't get very far.

Chaining is easy. I actually enjoyed it the couple times I've had to do it.

My old man was a pro. He could toss two sets of triples on in about 15 minutes.
