Anyone know of any companies that Train & hire from this region??? I could go to school in central MA but would prefer to save $5000 out of pocket. I think it's also hard to find employment right now if you get your license through a school. ANY help would be appreciated PLEASE!!!!!!!

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

There are Truck Driving Schools, but I would try local Community Colleges first... Just pick up the phone book or hit the computer and google schools in your area by zip??? There used to be a school in Manchester, NH. (New England Tractor Trailer School, aka NETTS) I know there are more probably closer to where you live?
kickin chicken Thanks this. -
If you are looking for a carrier with an in-house school in your area, you might find that the pickin's are slim. If you would be willing to go to a carrier school that is located outside of NE, then get hired with them on a freight lane near your home, I'll be glad to furnish you a list that came from my own research. I don't claim that my list captures 100% of the carriers with schools but it's a good starting list. Let me know!

That list would be appreciated...Thanks! I'm OK with a carrier school away from where I live!

This is a thread I started a week or so ago. The list I posted in the thread opener grew as the thread grew. Several members here added to the list in their posts to the thread. Read the thread. I try to add some tidbits of info I've learned since I started the thread.
As a quickstart though, call Roehl (pronounced "rail"), Con-Way, Swift, Watkins Shepard and Millis. I'll update when I can. Good luck!Last edited: Apr 16, 2010

Jester, I just got off the phone with Roehl. I pester them on a regular basis to see if they've bumped up their freight along I-10 in MS. I asked the recruiter about your situation and got this reply: Massachusetts and Illinois are 2 states that require you to retake your CDL road test if you want a CDL in MA. That is, no easy transfer. Many non-CDL holders who go to RDTC (Roehl Driver Training Center) get a WI CDL and then go back to their home and transfer the WI CDL to their home state with minimal hassle. I asked about just keeping the WI CDL and she said "No go", Roehl drivers (and other carriers' drivers, I guess) must hold a CDL in their state of residence. I guess that just makes sense. Your option with Roehl is to try to get you CDL A by whatever mean you can find before going to their driving school. I guess what that means is studying on your own for a permit, then lucking onto an O/O that would let you use their truck for practice and then for the road test....go luck with that (LOL). Anyway, I said I'd update and there you go. Swift is a no brainer, they are huge, lanes out the whazzoo!

NETTS is a very good school. I have trained three or four students that came out of there. Most companies will probably reimburse that $5000.
