Hi skallagrime, Thanks, but in response to "you should have no problem getting 3$/mile on legal loads" --- have you looked at a load board in the last year? I'm on DAT and Truckstop for hours every day, and nowhere in the country is $3 paid for legal loads, unless they deliver to ND or MT. Loads over $2 are rare, and in some places $1.50. When I get a load that pays well I always contact the broker the next time I'm empty near that shipper, but most of the time they don't have a load available. So, my only option is to get back on the load boards and hope for something decent.
cke and Deere hunter Thank this. -
For me the key has been ignoring what they want for a load and calling with MY minimum for a load, calling on freight posted with no rate, i very rarely book any load at their asking (posted) rate
I ignore every "email only" or "book now" posting. Those are the ones that mostly only bottom feeders use, yes its easy, but when has making a profit been easy? I guarantee any time you see a posted rate, theyre making more on it and are willing to give up some of their posted rate to cover it while hoping someone comes and bites at that rate
Again, knowing decent lanes and calling on loads with unposted rates are very important. If you think with so many people dropping out of trucking cause they got in when it was easy to get a good rate that its hard, i simply dont know what to tell you -
i like this guy, hes doing the same stuff

Just don't be one of these incompetent fools that run their amber warning lights all the time regardless of load size or state. If that doesn't scream I didn't read my permits, what else does.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
When I pull an Oversize load. I always have my Yellow warning lights on. Even if the permit doesn't require them. Increasing my visibility (to someone not paying attention or texting while driving) doesn't make me incompetent or a fool.
It might scream "I didn't read my permit" to someone who knows about permits.
It does not scream that same message to the majority of people on the road Because they have no clue about what a permit is or what it entails.
Warning lights are just for that, a warning to the motoring public.The_vett, beastr123 and Deere hunter Thank this.
