Hello. I purchased a couple Freightliner Glider trucks and cannot find who built them.
My brother is a mechanic at a local large chain store fleet and he got dibs on these his boss was selling.. Super nice couldnt pass up.
They are a 2016 w/ 14L Detroit and a 2017 w/ 12.7 Detroit... I also need to figure out what year the engine is... dealer has zero info on them.
Only tag on the 14L (2003 engine) one is this... nothing else. Truck has a sticker saying it was manufactured as a glider and to see additional paperwork for information.... I have no paperwork for that.

The 12.7 has a 2 piece valve cover with no stickers on it. None. The only tag on the engine is this one.. Any way to find out the year of the engine? Or what manufacturer built these gliders? If I could find that out im sure I can contact them with the VIN numbers and get all the paperwork that should have been left in them.

This is the 12.7L one... Im guessing the EPA98 listed under "Emission year" is meaning its a 1998 engine?

That's the thing about gliders...you on your own boss. I don't think fitzgerald ever did columbia's.
Taking it to a dealer is gonna be a waste of time.bjytech Thanks this. -

Here's the thing with gliders, sure there were company's like Fitzgerald putting them together but there are just as many put together by mechanically inclined owner/ops, owner ops that bought them and had local shops complete them, and also fleets of varying sizes completing them in-house as well.
Only way to truly know what you have is to figure out model and serial numbers on you engine, transmission, and rears, and save all that info.
Even if they were built by someone like Fitzgerald they may tell you what their computer shows it has in it but I've tore into enough of Fitzgerald's junk to tell you they haven't got a clue what parts were actually put in a engine when they assembled it.
Though I see in the one picture you posted the engine itself was a reman straight from Detroit so it should be correct to its serial number. -
That's a reman buiilt at the Detroit factory. You pop off that plate and they ground off the original block serial number and stamped that 06RE number. You're not getting the original block serial number from anyone. There should be a manufactured by tag on the door, but they are typically paper done by a shop. I doubt that is a Fitzgerald. That truck most likely came as a powered glider, meaning the engine was installed at the factory and the trans and rears were installed by the builder. The builder could be the first owner as well. Your local Freightliner dealer will usually print you the warranty history if you're nice about it.

Thanks.. I will try pulling that plate off. No stickers anywhere on the trucks. I did find the packets hidden in the trucks, owners manuals, sticker sheet, and the titles also have another truck in the notes, a different year and vin, donor truck I assume from 2002. Maybe the engine (entire drivetrain?) is a 2002? I did get every invoice copy from Freightliner.
Plan is to use the 14L truck and probably unload this one with the 12.7. Its in near mint condition with 400k miles and pretty much everything replaced.... going to repaint the front bumper body color though then sell it.
This is the sticker sheet I found in with the manuals. Nothing says where or who did it. I guess we'll never know. "Prep kit DDC 12.7: 360-600Hp"
How do you find out what the HP is set at?
