Unless you got a itty bitty short length trailer or got one of those "nearly" impossible permit that the city doesn't give out, it should be illegal for you to enter Manhatten w/your truck. :yes2557:

Handled...It's a city job and they wanted it in there.
    KW W900L and a 48 foot spread...In at 02:30 and out at 06:30!

There were three of us in there this morning...One other truck that was almost exactly like mine and a Junkliner Century pulling the same type of trailer with an oversize load.

Aint like you're the only person doing it. Now, I could see it being an issue if you came in in rush hour, and obviously the size of the truck is going to cause a lot of issues in major traffic. And you would be totally nuts to go there in rush hour.

Having said that, I went to brooklyn in rush hour a while back. But i had a firm appointment for a pickup and because i run totally legal, I was not able to work my hours so that i could come in at night. And I wasn't going to sleep in NYC. Yeah, the truck f-ed traffic up, but whatever. It can't be quite as bad as manhattan. :D

Shoot, when I was with schneider they sent us to lower manhattan to pick up about 3,000 lbs of t-shirts hand loaded off the sidewalk. Now its a big orange truck and a big orange 53' trailer. Got out of there with a $130.00 parking ticket, and stopped to ask a cop on the sidewalk for directions after we came up on a 12'6" bridge, turns out it was 13'6". The only thing the cop said after he gave directions was, now you guys get the heck outta my city..

What are the maximum dimensions for vehicles in New York City?
Unless otherwise posted the maximum dimensional restrictions for vehicles and combinations are as follows:
References after each item below may be found in subdivisions of Section 4-15 (pdf) of the New York City Traffic Rules.

    Maximum Vehicle Dimensions
    Width
    • 8 feet (96 inches) [Subd. (b)(1)]
    • 8 feet 2 inches (98 inches) for school buses and fire vehicles [Subd. (b)(1)]
    • 8 feet 6 inches (102 inches) for buses having a carrying capacity of more
    than seven passengers [Subd. (b)(1)]

    Height
    • 13 feet 6 inches (162 inches) for all vehicles [Subd. (b)(2)]

    Length
    • 35 feet for single unit vehicles (all vehicles except articulated buses and semi-trailers) [Subd. (b)(3)]
    • 65 feet for articulated buses [Subd. (b)(3)]
    • 55 feet for semi-trailers and other combinations of vehicles [Subd. (b)(4)]
    • Combination of vehicles - 55 feet except that on qualifying highways and access highways there is no limit on total length.

*Note: In a double bottom operation a trailer or semi-trailer may not exceed 28 feet 6 inches.

What is the legal route for 53 foot Trailers in New York City?*

In New York City on I-95 between I-287 and I-295, on I-295 between I-295 and I-495, and on I-495 between I-95 and the Nassau-Queens county line, a semi-trailer over 48 feet (but not over 53 feet) may be operated if the distance between the kingpin of the semi-trailer and the centerline of the rear axle or rear axle group does not exceed 43 feet, and if the semi-trailer is equipped with a rear-end protective device of substantial construction consisting of a continuous lateral beam extending to within four inches of the lateral extremities of the semi-trailer and located not more than 22 inches from the surface as measured with the vehicle empty and on a level surface.

Yeah but with my experience, and other friends experiences they are more than likely not gonna mess with ya unless you are causing some kind of problem in the city. Like hitting stuff, getting stuck, causing grid lock, parking illegally, and so on..

Basically, trailers over 96 inches wide and combinations of vehicles (truck + trailer) over all length over 55 feet is illegal in NYC. They don't enforce it everyday but when they (DOT/NYPD/NYECP) come out, better have some big pockets $$ ready. Not uncommon to see EPA cop write up a summon(s) and then DOT write up another on the same location because usually they set up together. EPA summons are "must appear in court" (normally $500+) and DOT summons are just fines (varies $$). Over length/width - rates around $850+, which any NYPD or DOT enforcement officer can write up. Most of the "big" trucks coming into Jacob Javits for trade shows are illegal and are subject to tickets at any time in NYC. A little known fact: you can't cross GW Bridge into Cross Bronx Expressway w/ 53feet trailer by law but everyone does. Like I've said, 99.9% of the times you may get away with it but if they ever "get" you, you'll remember it for a while. :biggrin_2553:

Why not? I used to sleep down in the middle of Brooklyn twice a month right on the street.
