First off KUDOS to this driver! He deserves a hell of alot of respect!!

Secondly, why is it so surprising that a truck driver would stop? That puzzles me.

Got that right. I refuse to stop these days. I'd rather call the police or emergency services, instead of taking a chance with my truck or my life.

I don't stop for anyone but the law enforcement. Way to many crazy people out these days.

Why do people respond to postings like the person it's about is actually reading it?

ok onto the actual news story. While i am glad that he was able to help he has got to have a mental problem to stop for anyone these days.

You know common sense goes a long way when stopping to help someone out these days. I stop and help people when I can. If I see a car on the side I try and slow down to see what the people look like and assess the situation. If there is a guy there I usually won't look twice because I figure that a man should be able to take care of himself. If it looks like some crazies then right on by I go. But, if I see an elderly couple or a woman by herself or with children I will stop if I can safely do so and at least offer to help them if they need it. More than once someone has stopped to help my mom who is a single women in questionable health, and my wife when she was out with our kids. I like to return that favor to someone else if I can. If something happens to me while doing so then so be it but I do what I think ios the right thing to do regardless. At the same time if you stop to help someone be smart and be on alert.

Bravo to the driver for saving that little girls life.

Especially in this case...obvious auto accident, possible injuries or worse...slow down assess the environment and scenario, if and when safe, stop and render aid. There are some truckers that not actually have a "duty to respond", but others who feel a compulsion and a compassion to offer aid to the needy...but in these economic and troubled times, it isn't always safe for the driver or for the security of the load to attempt to stop.
