I leave tomorrow for Dallas and start Orientation on Monday, April 19. My son wanted the driving experience so we're driving down, spending the night at Motel 6, and then he'll drive home on Sunday. It's about a 6 1/2 hour drive.
The Motel 6 is right around the corner from the terminal so we'll do a little "sightseeing" before he drops me off at the Ramada. I want him to leave no later than noon and I can't check in until 3, so it may be a long, boring afternoon...LOL I have games until my computer so I could play them while I wait.
Motel 6 has WiFi in some of their rooms, so I'll try to get one and then I'll have my son teach me how to connect (I've never connected out of the house). Then if the Ramada was WiFi I'll be able to post during Orientation. After that.....I'll post along the road as I can.
I'm nervous, excited, ready to get my new life started. I feel good about getting through Orientation since I have all my paperwork, Dr's releases, and am in good health. I just hope I don't have to wait to get on the truck.

I've been thinking seriously about applying to USX for a job. I live in the Dallas area and like the fact that USX has a terminal here. I drove for USA truck for 16 months, but I've been off since Thanksgiving. Looking to get back into it, with a better company.
Is this your 1st driving job? How did you apply? Are you going to be driving regional or all over the country? -
Best of Luck!!! Keep us posted.

Good luck and take it easy! Let us know everything you have time to report. I wish you the very best!! Oldnew...

Thank you, KC and Sonny.
Roadpizza, I just graduated school 2 weeks ago, so this is my first job. It was actually my instructor that told me to contact USX because they use automatics and employ a lot of women. I can drive a standard, just have a bad knee which the clutch really aggravates when backing. So I called, talked to a recruiter, and then started getting all my paperwork together and sent in. As to where I'll be driving......website says eastern half of the US, but I've read on here that I could be running all 48.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
the ramada does have wifi also bring your laptop to class they have wifi there and you will have alot of free time

Thank you, linadin. I had planned on taking my laptop to Orientation if only to play games while waiting...LOL It's also in my briefcase with all my paperwork and other important stuff so it's just easier to haul it around with me.

Well, we made it to Dallas. My son did all the driving and did really good. We had some construction zones and heavy traffic, but he handled it OK. The terminal is just down the road from our motel so we went and checked it out. They had lots of pretty, brand new trucks.
Tomorrow I'll head for the Ramada Inn and just hang around there until I can check in at 3pm. If I can connect to the WiFi in the lobby, that will be great. Then I can do my surfing to kill the time.red_house Thanks this. -
I'm at the Ramada and US Xpress Orientees get to check in whenever they get here, so that was nice. Got everything unloaded, made sure my son could get out of town and headed home, then I came up and managed to connect the the WiFi all by myself!!!!

do not leave anything you value in your room when you go to classes also if you bring a truck over there park it up front and not down the side. I know from experence. You would think that it would be safe as it is not a fea bag motel. Also I might be at terminal monday if you have any questions depends on this del.
